And to answer your earlier question..the GBH was not from today...that was a FL shot...I have seen one GBH in NC in the past 6 years...not exactly a birders paradise.

You need to head (about 8 hours) east to the coast to get NC GBH. The mountains have a totally different crop.

Heya TD, how's your 100-400 with the sidekick? I hear a lot of carping that it is unbalanced. I'd trust your impressions of it with the 5D mounted, a lot more than the random stuff I read on the Net..

In other news, I am sizing up a bag for the 300/2.8 ISL in my future.. the Domke F-2 classic looks like a great bag. Heck, I should tell my local dealer, with the amount of $$ I am paying, you should throw the bag in for free :p

Much as I love the Domkes, I doubt the F2 would hold a body and 300 2/8 with anything else. Well, maybe one other lens in a single compartment insert.

Mooooo everyone,

Just a quick drop in then I'm off to an Audubon Board meeting.

Ooooh Coool! Are we invited still?

Yeah, I talked to her today and she was great with it. We're just waiting to confirm whether or not Ron is free on Sat.

You wrong them. The first dedicated ground-attack A/C were used in WWI. Strategic bombing as well. Zeppelins, Gothas over London, squadrons held back from the front for defense of England, Trenchard's Independent Air Force bombing Germany.

OBTW - where I've been (crop, nothing else done from a small JPEG on the 20D - it sharpens up nicely but I haven't got NR software handy):

Cool, Jon!! Thanks for your history input. I can never get enough of that stuff. Nice shot, too.

You need a 5D Permie...that way you guys have all 3 crops covered...hehehe...

....not helping....

I think the reason is we spent most of the time inside the trucks except in one park you are not allowed to leave them so it was difficult to really shoot landscape. But I am sure someone got some great landscapes. I got a few but not anything special. I don't have an eye for spotting the great landscape compositions.

btw I also had my 85 f/1.8 with me and only used it for one shot :-(

Tommy, you used your MkIII, but what lenses did you use primarily?

Yea it will get your darn close at least. A lot of the time I never miss with it.

What you do, is the top knob will turn and you'll line the arrow on the baseplate with the 312 deg. then line up the arrow that move with magnetic north and walk towards the place pointed at by the baseplate arrow.

Cool, that sounds like something I might be able to do.

SANS actually had an article on VM dangers very recently. Check out www.incidents.org (external link) and look in the archives they have on the bottom of the page (specifically this article http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=3411 (external link)). The baddies out there are getting smarter all the time.

*HUGE SIGH...*

I guessed it was theoretically possible for them to 'jump' the hypervisor especially with so many points of ingress/egress. I just didn't want to believe it. Is there no hope at all?

You know, if even VM systems can be attacked, what makes the Mac community think they're bulletproof safe? It's really all just a matter of time. VM systems are supposed to be even more isolated, and the challenges of working out whether you are running on a completely invisible (theoretically) host and attacking at a level BELOW the [virtual] hardware: yet they can circumvent THAT!

Not difficult to see why I'm losing all hope.

The SANS author makes a very good point about air gapped networks. I was even reading about an interesting Belkin KVM with Level 4 certification for classified/declassified networks.. it has no processor so there is no way that the data can 'jump' across the KVM.. DAMN... so even THAT is possible..

(I bought the very ordinary, doesn't-come-in-camo-and-isn't-milspec-bombproof-classified Belkin Flip for consumer home use. It comes in pretty white colors and has nice LEDs. Bloody 'ell.... I'm just a civilian netadmin.. why do I have to go to such great lengths to secure my networks, it's overhead I don't want to have to dela with :( )

Hey Yoda - finally found what I was looking for- I had these when I worked for the Wireless ISP:
http://cgi.ebay.com …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

AWESOME! When wanting to find a tower on a far hill I would look on the topo and find 148deg - then get up on the rooftop and point the binocs towards 148 and I see it in the cross-hairs. VERY COOL! Kinda expensive for a compass - but they are really great in terms of pointing accuracy. With a normal compass, the compass could be pointed at 148deg, but there is no definitive direction - when looking through a binoc with cross-hair and heading you KNOW when you are on that heading.

Now that looks cool and that would definitely be easy to use.

timbernet wrote in post #4004020 (external link)
Timex? I had one like that -- accurate to 10deg :-D SUCKS!

Suunto. I expected a bit better given their reputation. Oddly, this compass usually works... though I have never really checked for accuracy..

Dan, your flamingos are very pale compared to the ones we have here. I wonder if they area different species.

Funny you should mention that - there are 5 species. But the colour's also partly age-linked and partly related to diet.

Something else about those - they are in 1degree increments. Most compasses do not have 1degree increments :-D
