Y'all excuse me while I have another "What are they smoking?" moment.

Earlier there were some complaints about the 40D not focusing with the 100-400 with taped 1.4x TC. Despite the fact this is out of spec, some actually used the argument "the 30D did it so the 40D is a downgrade because it can't".

Now that I have my 1-4 back, I popped some tape onto my Kenko Pro300DG 1.4x, and then the teleconverter onto the 1-4 and 40D.

Amazingly, even in light as low as 1/5 sec f/8 (with TC) ISO 1600, because I am testing indoors under next-to-hopeless lighting, IT WORKS FINE. Yes it misses focus and hunts quite a bit on targets that do not have as much contrast, but this is in light that is totally inappropriate for using a 520mm zoom. The moment I point it at something with a bit more contrast, or 'guide' it in using full time manual, the AF locks on fast and decisively. For all AF points. In fact, turning on 9 AF points increased the probability that I would get a fast and accurate lock. I'm normally a single-center-point-only user.

I think this setup will work just fine for moon shooting since the moon is a VERY high contrast target against a pitch black sky.

Good to know. A 1.4 TC is on my list to use with the 1-4 and the XT. But as my dad may get a 40D, I'll be able (maybe) to play with it as well ;-)a

YIHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[SIZE=2]I just finished the first pass of PPing on the wedding shots from end August (I kow I'm slow...)

Out of the initial 750 shots, I have ran 240through PPing. Now, I have to do a second pass and select the ones for the book I'm gonna print ;-)a

It's not over yet  but is already a big relief...

To each of these questions, the humiliated husband will have to answer, “I dunno.” Because, no matter how often he has to repeat the entire conversation, the wife will not understand that the only thing he knows is that someone recently had a baby.

VOTE EARLY - VOTE OFTEN

In a completely unrelated matter, I submitted a couple of pictures to a Washington Huskies fan site just for fun.

One of the pics is up for vote this week -- no prize, other than my mom, the kids' grandma, seeing her grandkids on the giant screen at the stadium during the next game. All her friends will be there to see it, too, so no pressure.:lol::lol:

So, go VOTE! We're shot #2:

voted, but your shot is still 3rd :-( The guy of #3 must have lots of friends. He's got more than 50% and has a quite bad picture IMHO...

Christmas decorations! I thought the hot Halloween costume this year was Santa Claus. ;)

I'm with you on the amazingly early appearance of the decorations, though. I had a good rant about shopping and early decorations last year. . .I'll probably build up to it again this year.

Thanks!

I didn't see we were up for vote until this morning. My Mom's chain of Grandma-Mail hasn't kicked in yet. I imagine once she starts to let people know, they'll think they've been hit with a DDOS attack.

What took 'em so long? I've seen a few stores full of Christmas decorations over the past three or four weeks.

I saw a selection of Christmas ornaments show up in a shop on Disneyland's "Main Street U.S.A." back in June! It's been growing steadily larger, taking over more and more of the store with every visit (and until I moved in August, I visited weekly!)...

But isn't the christmas shop open all year ? I think it is in Orlando.

I think there should be a worldwide law that prohibits stores to start decorating for christmas before mid november.
