What kind of product work do you need a Macro lens for??

I usualy set up the light and tents, then get back as far as I can, to minmise distortion from perspective.

A large amount of the stuff I did here in the UK before heading to Glasgow was small products. Jewelry and small tooling etc. Small enough that a normal lens required a bit of cropping, but big enough that I'd never utilise the 1:1 thing...

Cheers, Dave.

Sounds like you need a quasi Macro, something like my Sigma 17-70.

I see the photos perfectly.
Wendy, might want to check some browser settings, or if your at work, check of photobucket is the blocked list.

So long and thanks for all the flash

You reckon? The 24-70 although not listing itself as a quasi-macro does have a macro end on it and it's not quite close enough... Plus when in use shooting someone you're literally less than 8/9ins away which is a bit close for comfort sometimes unless the model's experienced. The working distance from the subject is the only reason I was wondering about the 180L over the 100 which gets such good reviews.

Wendy, have a check on your settings, and if it's still not happening I'll look into if there's other problems. If you're really that bothered I'll email you the shots, but they're not all that. :p

Cheers, Dave.

I've heard mentioned that folks have problems when logged in to http://www.photography-on-the.net as opposed to https://photography-on-the.net

p.s. managed to download the .pdf book last night - several times the download stopped so I just kept on retrying. Thanks!

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
TF posting: here :-)

I think there's interconnection issues going on between various routers and ISPs at the moment. I had it several times recently where some have not been able to see my images, where others have. Occassionally you get that with e-mail as well - for some unknown reason there'll be one or two who's mail never makes it to you. Often due to dodgey NS records on some name server somewhere.

For the record, I can see the images fine Dave.

Very cool car shot by the way....

The impossible has begun - another step closer - and I am very hungry for it.

Thanks, will have a look, great that you got the book downloaded, sorry for the hassle and glad you kept on trying :D. Its quite good hey? Their method of dodging and burning is the one I use and its the best and most non destructive IMHO.

The 17-70 will focus on dust and water drops on the front of the filter. Is that close enough?

I can see how having extra working distance would be handy though, espcialy if you are setting up lights, reflectors, etc.
I've just done some glass/polished aluminium shelves for work, I almost put the 70-300 to get as far away as possible, which altered the perspective, which altered what was, and what wasn't reflecting in the glass.

So long and thanks for all the flash
