Wow Matt, the Kohi Blaze one I like. A lot.

The other one, Kohi Night Shoot seems very noisy by comparison.

Cheers, Shane

Thanks shane :)

Yeah i think its just my editing on that one. Pushed the contrast a wee bit too much. Im really enjoying night time photography. I like the effects it produces from just pitch black.

Its cool to be able to see the clouds from the moon light as well. So i can pick which section has the "best" cloud formation. Only thing about night time is that im looking behind me every few seconds to make sure no one will sneak up behind, beat me and steal my gear. And car...

Like this damn car that decided to park down the rd from me tonight. Tinted windows. I just stared at them thinking. Piss off! Scared me away to be honest.

@Chris. I like the rich colours. Is it just me or does it look a little crooked?
Agreed... It is a little empty.
Maybe you can try adding something to the foreground that fits... A rugby ball to break the monotony of the green grass.
Or a sheep..
I suppose they are more interested in documentary images than artistic ones.. so it is probably fine how it is.

I like it. Got any other angles you could show us?

Here goes my favourite from my night shoot mission tonight.

That's cool I like the colours and th sky.

Thanks Peter. Thats rally cool to recieve a comment like that from, like, Peter Hansen .

I watched this youtube video about the 10 most important things when going out to photograph by Rick Sammon.

One was to look up, down, back and front. Also he said stand back and look around, survey the area. Pick the best spots. Ever since that moment i have just taken my time. Thought about what the picture would look like in my head and snap it.

Yeah it is actually a spot for smooching. Ive been there before, had my first smooch there actually :p. I had this weird plan in my head if who ever was in the car decided to attack me.

I would pick up my tripod, swing the legs in and try to propel the legs of the tripod in order to take a few out.:cool::cool: Tripods are weapons!

This video, from the glamor forum is filled with awesomeness.

Errr Who???

Yes.. I know that video. It's from a guy who posts in G&N.

What I find myself doing more & more now is NOT taking a photo as I know it won't be anything special. Every now and then I still go for luck.. but 99.9 % of the time they are still just Cr@p.
Good advice with the looking around.
I haven't looked at your new photos yet. I just pop in every hour or so to quickly see if anything is new.

Crooked, and completely the wrong time of day, (well at least for that stand :p, the other side would have been perfect)

With hanging out there a lot, you'll get the jist of it, and get some awesome shots no doubt. Where's the vignetting from? Lens hood? CPL filter possibly? Look at trying some wide angle shots with a Cokin Grad ND filter shot, on a day with ominous clouds. You'll get something really worth looking at

i thought it was crooked too, the ground has a distinct slope to it... but then i looked at the vertical lines on the stand and they seem to be quite true on the left, so maybe its an optical illusion?

also you need to bring up the fill light on the darker areas to minimise the contrast between light and shade

the shot is a little empty, maybe some foreground interest somehow?

not quite sure what it's a shot of - if it's the stand itself then maybe get a little further left to have more of the stand in foreground to lead you into the shot. Definately looks like the ground is going downhill - you either need a T&S lens or a little fiddle in PS.
I get the feeling that you could be doing a lot of pano's...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

cheers guys - yep the east stand is a nightmare to shoot during the day...
I have shot a lot panos as Duncan suggested.

Its typical thou - I need clouds and a dark sky - i get bright blue and a nor wester.. i will look at the other 3 gig of photos and go back later this evening when the sun is behind the west stand.

As for the foreground interest - its being set up for the cricket.. so the grass is green and wide open...

but it does leave space for the ad guys to add bits to it..

warren yep cpl filter... i am going to remove the front two holder slots me thinks...

SS - the ground does have a very distinct curve to it.. - it falls away toward the stands on all four sides. - drainage i think..

But again thanks guys your input is very valuable.

apart from it being crooked, I like it.

for one you can see detail in the stands. might be a bit dark. I like the contrast between the green and the blue and I think it works well. the angles of the stand and the shadow on the ground works.

the vignetting I think should be removed :) apart from that I think it's a very striking looking photograph and I think thats why it works. and yea I would like it to be a bit wider. showing more green and blue sky.

Hey guys, just had a webdesign company ask to use 12 of my landscape images for the Palmerston North City Council website. They want a price. What do I need to tell them?

Get stuffed.
Edit: jokes of course Daniel.

Congratulations, really does depend exactly what it's for. But just web size images? For unlimited use, say 600 pixels max? $50 each pic?

For posters, advertising etc,$200-1000
Maybe a set price for the whole series.

Say $200 for web usage
and/or $1500 for more commercial use

Juice their money, before you end up paying councils yourself in rates ;)

Chris,

Slightly crooked, too contrasty, wrong time of day were some of my thoughts... just before I saw the others' comments.... Have you tried HDR stuff or PPing the darker side...? Might work...

Matt, I like the pics. It is sad that we now have to look over our shoulders to see who's coming... to rob us... At the end of the day, insure your stuff, give them the gear. It is not worth getting beaten to a pulp or getting killed for camera and gear.

$50-$75 each. Extra if used in other forms of media. The councils tend to use heaps of pics at bus shelters (at least up here in Orkland) I bet they have a budget of at least $1500 to commission a set of pics. You've done all the hard work for them... so I probably would go for $75

John;)

Believe... Work hard... and it will happen!

I would say $500-$650 to be fair. I mean it is the governments money. After all it is the art world. And it ain't cheap!

My new tripod has steal spikes. They try to rob me and they will find 3 extra holes in their body before they get my kit.
