haha thats excellent, i just linked to it on a reviews site i found randomly

hey wazza, in a few words can you describe your 24-105L ? maybe give it a rating out of 10? and anyone else who has one or has used one and remembers it? thx :)

Looks like the bug bit you big time SS... You're going to end up having a "new gears resolution" soon

Quality - 8/10
Functionality - 9/10

I love it - I've not used it too often wide open at say f4, so I can't accurately say how good it is for say wedding photos aimed at shallow depth of field.

However as a walk around, it's got great range - especially on a full frame or my 1D body - I'm not absolutely fond of it on my 20D, as it's not quite wide enough, but 24mm on 1.3x crop is perfectly fine for 90% of the time.

If you can get it cheap like I got mine (bought with a 5D then sold the 5D, thanks Kirst! :p)
Then I paid around $1100 for my new lens

+ Can't forget the IS! This is what really makes this lens. It was even great doing motorsport, such as 1/30th pans very easily

It also has a 77mm front filter size, so will match your 10-22 I guess? (10-20 SIgma I know is that size)
My 17-40 also has 77mm filter - makes it so much easier for having less filters

Very cool pics Warren!

Here's my photos for the night.

Trichocereus Scopulicola in flower

I learned something today... I didn't realise that catuses grew flowers like that.

Welcome back Peter, I wondered where you were. Awesome alps pics. I have the opportunity of getting a 24-70mm second hand hardly used at a good price, still around $1500. I remembered your words about it being a very good lens and its the one I have been on the look out for. I am really tight with cash but he doesnt mind it in a few payments, should I go for it you recon?

Go for it Wendy! You will rarely find someone who is willing to accept installments.

I don’t know whether this is being a bit cheeky please tell me.
I have an idea for a web site that I think can generate a fair amount of income and also be used as photo album.
I have discussed the idea with a number of people and they love it.
I want to know if there are coding people out there that can take my idea and create the website BUT do it for shares rather than money upfront.
Bryan

Sounds interesting...

Hey guys. Well my job interview is done - sounds quite promising at this stage! The guy just needs to confirm it with the big boss.

Anyway, last night was good, it was fun taking night photos again, I haven't done it in an age. I'll edit them all properly when I get back home, but here's one from last night of the Sky Tower (attached).

Nice to meet you Matt, hope some of yours came out nice and you learnt some stuff :)

All the best for the interview!

I am... have to take the better half... I'll be bringing my extension tubes with me!

EDIT: The tickets are fecking bloody expensive - $35 per person! I don't know why the NZ public allow themselves to be ripped off with prices like these...

Geez, that's an expensive CV. I hope you get to keep a file that you can modify later on. Good luck with the interview!

Yeah i get to keep all formats can log onto website and edit it / file all i want. Plus they even formated me a HTML website. I don't think it works though, needs hosting.

Im really happy with it. Just sent my email to the job.

Remuneration for this role is primarily commission-based, so is largely dependent on performance. If targets are met, a significant income can be earned in this role. This position has flexible working hours.

umm what does this mean exactly :o

it means you will get a low retainer of some sort and will only make a proper wage or good living if you're prepared to work your ass off into all hours of the night/weekends...

and if you sit around, you'll be poor, possibly fired

What SS said. In other words, the employer wants to have their cake and eat it too! Very similar to when I was working with Hill & Stewart - they have you in the shop 830-530 doing all the work, then you hope to fight off 3 other guys for a sale.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the job as I was in front of new toys every so often, but that didn't translate to enough $$$ to feed a family. Maybe I was at the wrong store... I know some of the guys in the better stores made around $60-$75K p.a. but that was a heck of a lot of work!

Use this as a stepping stone. Learn all you can then move on to one like Kirst's;)

Nice! A pity though that there were too few cars for light trails on the motorway...

Thanks. I think the best time for that sort of thing is in winter when it gets dark around rush hour. You get plenty of cars and light trails then!

Wow, it's been slow in here today, only a couple of pages to catch up on.

somethingsimple wrote in post #4258174 (external link)
lol i know - thats not the ONLY reason tho - i also would like a walk-around lens with a bit more length - we go alot of places where i take shots throughout the day and sometimes im looking for a bit more reach than 17-55 offers

i did think about the 85... not good for walkaround tho

i usually just switch to the bigma but the quality at the wider end doesnt compare to 17-55 so i find myself leaving the shorter lens on just so i can get cleaner photos, and only put the bigma on for long shots - also it gets heavy after 2 or 3 hours!

i know it looks like i've become a bit of a magpie

- truth is i have always been one, but don't often have the means to act like it! this is my one opportunity for a while to get hold of a few pieces i've been considering for a long time - once this deal is finalised there's going to be no way to alter it, so i'm trying to guess ahead of time what will be my best options given the kinds of shooting i do, both personal and professional - and my budget limits.

so i appreciate any advice or suggestions offered, even if i dont take them ;-)a

Hey, if you want gear, go and buy it. I have no problem with people spending their money on whatever takes their fancy. I just suspect that if you had both the 24-105 and the 17-55 one of them won't get used very much.
