Hey friends,

when I shoot for more than 5 secs there is a red pixel on the lower left of the shot. Its not a big deal because I can clone it out and it doesn't show up on shots with faster shutter speeds, but it is something that bothers me. Is this normal? Should I return the camera for a replacement? Will they laugh at me?

Thanks!
Rian

called a hot pixel, perfectly normal in any camera (you should try iso1600 30", that can double as a stars in a clear night sky)

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Wow. yeah at 3200 iso there are a lot of very dim spots. But this one I speak of is a bright red dot. It is just as prevalent at 100 iso as it is at 3200. :(

They must have forgotten to include it in your 30D. I'd complain. :)

Seriously though, I have a red one (actually it's a cluster of 8-12 pixels if you look close) that appears pretty regularly at ISO 800 and above on my 20D. Don't notice any lower than that. I don't think it's that unusual but I'd find it annoying if it showed up at all ISOs. If it were me I'd try to see if it could be remedied.

crap. I just took a shot at 1/640 and the red dot is still there. Does this mean I have a dead pixel I didn't notice?

:( :( :(

Try a manual sensor clean for 30 seconds, with the body cap on tight. Some time you might get lucky and clear the hot pixel.

Good call. I thought manual sensor clean meant it just opened the mirror for you to clean it with a blower. am i wrong?

Great news! I ran sensor clean about 5 times and it cleared everything up. :)

thanks for the help friends. I hope this helps anyone who finds stuck pixels on the sensor. sensor clean one time didn't work, but 5 times did the trick :)

apologies for my intervention -
but what is a hot pixel and why it happens?
is it the same that comes on lcd screens if you are unlucky-
and they will not replace it if there are less then 3 showing ?
