hehe. different type of bike

that said, racing cars down Nebo on the road bike used to be fun... get up to between 80-90km/h on some of the wider parts (tight mossy corners + skinny tyres means you have to slow down considerably to corner).

AndI thought cracking 70kph on Old Cleveland Rd, Camp Hill on my Mt bike was doing pretty good. No corners, either - phew!

Down's a different story - with a 45 year old car, drums on the back, and shonky cylinders on the front with a dose of brake fade that goes from "stop" to "holy sh!T!" over the space of 2 corners, I'm not even going to try and take you on the downhill sections!

Now that takes skill.

haha. road tyres are better on the road :p some of the corners on Nebo are pretty wide, and in the early morning you can always see/hear cars well before you reach the corner, so you know whether its safe to take the whole road or not. if not, you jump on the brakes for fear of going over the side! :p

Now that takes skill.

agreed, that's impressive!

Alright folks.... on the same idea..... is need some new tyres. 235/40 R18 what do you recommend??? Don't want to go over about $330 a corner for F&B. Bridgestone Potenza's are what are on there now and suited quite nicely. Got 40,000Km out of them which was surprising.

I have absolutely no idea why, but Telstra has gone and disconnected our home phone number. Obviously the net still works, but yeah, no home phone.

It just gives us a message saying the number has been disconnected whether you try and ring from it or ring the home number from another phone. Still scratching our heads as to why it was done and mums on the phone to them at the moment.

So id like to take a moment to say,

Thanks Telstra for Being useless

Hey everyone,

I was in my usual camera store today, Rainer's Camera House in the city, and was served by a very unprofessional and rude man.

I asked to look at the Canon 40D, and immediately he gave me poor attitude and demanded, "have you looked at this before?", making me feel uncomfortable. I replied that I had indeed seen it before, and he followed up with "well, it's the same camera, nothing's changed", his tone implying that I didn't need to have a look at it.

As I held it up to look through the viewfinder, he challenged me, "what do you need to look at it for?" I have been considering to buy the 40D, and just wanted to try it out and look at the viewfinder compared to my 350D. However, I was shocked at his attitude and blunt questioning, and I didn't know what to say so I told him that I wanted to look through the viewfinder. He made another comment which made me feel bad, and with that, I handed him back the camera and stormed out. This all happened within 1 minute.

It wasn't like there were other customers queueing up and waiting and I was wasting his time and stopping him from serving others. The man was very unhelpful, and gave me poor attitude, and did not help his customer. I don't know if he thought I was toying with him and that I couldn't afford it - who is he to judge whether I can afford it or not? I'd like to let him know some people do work hard at their jobs and get paid well and can afford these hobbies. It's just a hobby, but this ordeal sure does leave a bad taste in the mouth.

I feel that when people are in a competitive market and trying to sell stock that is worth thousands of dollars, they should not belittle customers like that. I have bought my previous camera and lenses from them, and thanks to this forum's evil influence ;-)a , planned to buy a 40D or a 5D and goodness knows what L glass to go along with it from them within the next 10 days. Now I will not.

I normally shop there because of the great and helpful staff, and because I can see the cameras/lenses and try them out before I purchase it. This has never been a problem in the past. It is the one advantage that brick and mortar stores have over internet stores. I was happy to have the human interaction and support my local store. Now I may have to turn to the internet stores.

Without a doubt, if I were the boss, I would have terminated that employee on the spot. I can't have unprofessional people being rude to customers and turning them away from sales worth thousands of dollars to me; it's a business that I'm running and I need to sell the stock and facilitate return customers! Not only has he lost me as a customer, but also my camera hobby friends who I have directed there in the past.

So my fiancee and sister (who were with me in the store) went back to the store to complain to Michael (the manager) and he seemed to have known about, and expected, that particular employee's actions. I hope Michael sees that this one person has caused some problems. By the way, Michael is always friendly and helpful with any questions that I have. I must emphasise that it is just the one incompetent staff member, everyone else that I've dealt with is nice to chat to and helpful with my questions.

But shame on that one employee. I am a professional, and I take care of my patients, and from what I saw today, your actions were very unprofessional indeed. Poor form, mister.

Hey everyone,

<snip>

Poor form, mister.

Shame you had that experience with Rainers. I usually steer clear of them anyway because of how pushy they are to try and sell me something when ever i set foot in the door.

In that situation, i would have walked a couple of stores down to Teds and looked at the 40D there. The staff there are great about it if i want to go into there and have a feel of a camera. Went in there to look at a D200 once and openly stated that i just wanted to compare it to my 20D. Besides, Teds has more interesting stuff in there. I think they sell L glass where camera house doesnt or something like that.

I don't know what it is about Camera stores and their level of service/arrogance/whatever but it seems to exist just about everywhere.

I have to say, the only camera store I ever got consistently good service from was Andersons who used to be on the other side of Adelaide St, though they no longer have a retail shop just the repair shop at Capalaba :(

Funny you say that, because that's what I ended up doing. The young man there was very helpful, and gave me both the 40D and the 5D to compare (btw, I can't see a dramatic difference in viewfinder size between the two like others have mentioned, only that the AF points on the 40D seem more spread out). And lots of L glass there too =)

In my opinion the rude man at Rainer's has much to learn from the young man at Ted's.

Jackass. He'll lose camera sales through doing that, though, and it's probably a good thing that the manager's aware that he has an employee that's losing the store money!

There's nothing like a good camera salesman who's basically thrusting the camera into your hands, telling you to play with it and mess around as much as you want..

Edit: Woots! 4000th post..

Yup, I think the arrogance is uncalled for. DSLR users are likely to return for lenses, tripod, extra memory cards, flash, camera bags, etc. So why make us feel unwelcomed? These are customers spending thousands of dollars! Lose two or three customers carelessly and we're into the tens of thousands! It's a good reminder for me NOT to provide that kind of poor service when I'm at work.
