Hmmm... just had a spot of good luck come my way.

A few days ago, MX had a competition in the paper for return flights from here to anywhere in australia for two people with jetstar. I saw it and joked with hayley that it would be cool if i won it so we could fly down to melbourne together next year. So i put an entry in figuring nothing would come from it.

Just had a phone call to tell me that id won :D

Although at first i thought it was someone asking me to come in for a job interview

yeah blame me :D it's all my fault ;) hehe...

actually... i'm more inclined to blame telstra... as they are the root of all evil ;) hehe

We switched from Telstra to another ISP and got our home phone and internet bundled about a year ago.

We are still receiving bills - with a $17.11 credit! And a note - "please note your account is in credit. This amount will be applied to your next invoice".

28 phone calls later  they still haven't sent us a cheque. And the phone calls are always "I'm so sorry! This shouldn't be happening - leave it with me and I'll fix it."

Yeah, right...

So there's hope. Plus decent staff discount if successful.... maybe worth a follow up with them.

Yeah, right...

They really are useless, aren't they. So here's what you do - send Telstra an invoice for the money owed to you, plus lost interest that you would have got had you been in posession of said money. Oh, and maybe put Today-Tonight's website or phone number on the bottom of the letter - just for effect :p

Yeah, although i think i would still buy stuff from B&H and DD. Dont think the discount would be enough to still make things cheaper...

Sam. I know we've been through this once before, but where did you get your 10-20 from, and how much did you pay? IIRC you said ~$650 from Rainer's?

-spam- wrote in post #4526503 (external link)
About that price from photocontinental in the end i think. It was the same price as it would have been from DD at the time. Although i just had a look and they have it for $599 now. Besides B&H, probably the best deal you are going to get at the moment.

I know Andrew, you're leaving pretty soon, but for future reference, the bloke I got my last lens and extender/tubes from - $547 plus delivery

PS not sure of there are differing Siggy 10-20 lenses for Canon - saw another for $590.

Well, yes they are haha.

The job hunting saga continues. Got a bunch of emails back from places that i applied for last week saying, thanks for your application but we dont want you :|

I just want to earn some money again so i can pay off what i owe people and then get myself some new glass :(

mmm same here :|

I only have another month on my contract, and the three hours a week I'm going to get next month is still worse than what Wollies were giving me before we "went our separate ways" (meaning I didn't quit and I wasn't fired... I just refused to travel all that way just to see I had no hours so I didn't :D).

If I could get a couple of hundred dollars together and had a run of good weather to make some decent photos in then I'd try selling some prints at the markets or something. I'd be my own boss - no autonomy issues then, eh? :D

</rant> :)

Ive often thought of trying the markets thing. But honestly, i just want a boring old desk job in town doing admin or something IT related. Just want to catch the bus into town, do my how ever many hours and go home. And then every now and then, buy myself something camera related and go somewhere on a weekend and enjoy it.

Thanks David, that's a good link. I got mine for $645 at Teds after I told them Rainer's would do $650, so I'm pretty happy with that. Unfortunately I couldn't get any less at Rainer's as I was dealing with the owner and he seemed a bit grumpy today :p.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you end up paying for your 70-200?

Yep - that's the plan :D

Even for non-landscapey shots - I took one in Melbourne in the Mall at night outside Myer, with the overhead lights running across the top, and the pavement below. 7mm less (ie 10-20 instead of 17-85) would have changed an alright piccy to a niiccee piccy. Ah well.
