Don't have an account so can't read, but I can guess the content.

Here is the post quoted for you :)

Haha, similar thing happened to me with a 50mm f/1.8 (not the same price range, I know).

I bought the lens the night before I bought my 40D, because I was in the city that night so I figured I'd save myself a trip. The next day I opened it to check it out (still didn't have a camera to mount it on at this point), and there was a scratch on the rear element that wouldn't come out by buffing it. Needless to say, I was p****d. I called Rainer's and spoke to someone who told me to bring it in.

I walk in, hand it to the staff member. He walks to the back of the store and hands it to Rainer. He takes a quick glance at it, tells me that I've scratched it, and tells me to get out of the store because he's not replacing it (yes, those words).

Things got a little heated (because I don't like being called a liar). He told me that there's no way that it left his store in that condition, and there's no way Canon would replace it because it's an obvious thing that I'd done. I said that's not my fault, I'd bought a damaged lens from him, and as the retailer, he should be doing what he can to resolve the problem.

He told me to "Get the f**k out of his store, and stop wasting his time with this BS", because I was obviously the one who caused the damage. Blah blah blah, I ended up just leaving it there on the bench.

He called me like 5 hours later, saying that he looked at the lens and it turns out that the "scratch" was just a really bad mark. He had to buff the s**t out of it, but it came out eventually (what kind of "mark" that is I don't know, but it was as clear as day). When I went to pick it up, he told me to never come back to his store, even though I was right!.

Either way, yeah I was disappointed in Canon's QC, because that mark was as clear as day, it was huge. And f**k Rainer, too. I was dumbfounded at his complete lack of diplomacy, customer service skills, and integrity. Telling a repeat customer who has spent nearly $2k in your store to "get the f**k out of here" for bringing back a damaged lens is mind-blowing.

Cant believe the guy is still in business...

Thanks, I was expecting it to be raining all day here also but so far it's been ok. Kids are in toy heaven, all that stuff that had to sit in the boxes can now be opened.

We'll see how much Mr Murphy likes me.:D

Well, happy kids = happy parents. And occupied kids = time for Dad to go out and make up for lost time, photographing stuff..

Ahh, thanks Sam. Worse than I imagined, I must admit - that's a pretty sad way to operate a business. There's probably a dozen or two (at least) ppl just on the Bris POTN ramblings who won't go there again, let alone who else gets told that sorry tale. Me included.

Meanwhile, better check my nifty.....

BTW, anyone ever hacked their body firmware? Was reading earlier about a 300D hack which made it similar to a 10D - upped the ISO max to 3200, custom settings etc.

I think there was only ever the hack for the 300D because it was pretty much the 10D in terms of hardware. Besides ISO 3200, i think it also added things like RAW+Jpeg, mirror lock up and the custom function menu.

There wouldnt be much to add on the 350/400D other than iso 3200 and lets face it, how often does anyone use it?

Found a decent article explaining what the hack added here (external link) if you are interested.

Dunno, maybe this IDY store helps to keep the City store afloat.

It's so strange, I hardly know that they are in the house, quietly playing in their own rooms. Tracey gone shopping as otherwise we'd have nothing to eat tonight.

I'm charging my Adidt remote for the 30/40D's. Wanted to use it chrissy day and it didn't work cause it was flat. Arrrh! I usually set the camera up on a tripod and pass the radio trigger around to everyone at the table. This gives lots of fun candids. Had to settle for the timer.

David, in the end there were two hacks for the 300D, I followed them for a while but never hack my 300D. The original was Russian and the other was from a mod called the Unduchables (IIRC) The other thing that comes to mind was that FEC was added in the hack.

My brother has a hacked 300d and he loves it. The only reason it worked as mentioned is that the 300d was just a 10d with crippled software - much like the D40/s etc etc.

Except they are just ridiculously crippled cameras.

Just found out that we are going out towards mt nebo this afternoon. Hope that the clouds go away for a while at least. And so much for me going for a driving lesson with my dad

True. It's be so noisy you wouldn't hear youself think.

That's a similar article to the one I read.

I wondered about my 400D re hacking. I think I'll leave it be and dream about a better body (camera :p) down the track.

Looks blue from here - my office is in Central Plaza 2, looking out over Jade Buddha/Macca's/Michaels/Bne river. A bit of cloud, mainly white, and a bit of sky.

That's what the article said - 300D is watered down version of 10D, software-wise, so they could fill that segment of the (cheaper) market.

Hey - driving around Mt Nebo should be fun. Plenty of sideways action.... ;) Just ask Ruth. Just remember to take the camera gear with you.
