10D vs D60

Sorry to go backwards a bit, I currently use a D60 and mainly use it for sports photography (cycling) - It produces decent shots, it's well built but sometimes it's a little slow to focus and shoot continuously.

I'm a bit of a poor student, so generally look second hand. The 10D looks like a slight upgrade over the D60 in terms of focus points, will it be better?

I am likely to have two bodies, so saving up for a 20D (if I can) and then a 10D or my old D60 as a second body for portrait and podium shots.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

to answer your question is yes, the 10D will be better, but not worth the upgrade.

there are a number of options to you. Have you looked at the price of a 2nd hand 20D?

this will be better AF than the 10D and what you are currently using.

I would also suggest looking at a used 20D or 350D.

Best regards,
Andy

xt should be same price as a 10d, but with 8MP and same af/everything else. i'de say save up some money and go for 20d,30d,40d, 400d (used 20d or 400d will be dirt cheap and both have same focusing system)

I'd also recommend a 2nd hand 20D. The 10D does have better AF by all accounts, is a bit sturdier, and from memory has a slightly faster buffer, but is still only 6mp. A 20D is a much better improvement allround imho - better AF, better noise, larger/faster buffer, bigger LCD screen from memory, Digic II and the list goes on I'm sure...

20D doesn't have a bigger screen than the 10D, but otherwise I think you're right about the improvements (there are many of them indeed!)

When I Changed from 10d to 20d, I definetly had a lot more keepers, focusing is greatly improved in my experience. The operations are also faster. (No waiting for it to wake up, faster alll around.) Hold on for a 20D or 350D. The difference to my 30D from the 20D are not as noticable. I think that from the D60 you will much more appreciate the 20/30 series above the rebel series. The Rebel series are good performers but do not have the same feel or ruggedness. 10D and original digital rebel are slower operating than the 20 and newer cameras. I did like my 10D a lot, just like the 20 more.

The 10D wasn't enough more than the D60 for me to upgrade; the 20D however is definitely the way to go. More AF points, faster start-up and a significantly better frame rate and buffer. If you're shooting sports, the bigger (23 vs. 8 shots in JPEG) buffer can make the difference between catching the action or catching the aftermath. Aside from the higher ISO, you won't find one of the Digital Rebel line all that appealing compared to the D60.

The D30 and D60 preceded the 10D and so on. Popping the 'D' on at the back seems to confuse a few into thinking they're either typos or Nikons!

it's the D60, not the 60D. it came out before before the 10D.

this is a side by side comparison of your current camera, the 10D and the 20D

The most noticeable difference in handling between the 20D and the 10D might be the difference in speed when turning it on and saving the image.

I tried out a 300D once and - while it was a nice little camera with a slightly weird shutter sound - the speed issue compared to my 20D really pissed me off big time.

Best regards,
Andy

you can get a 20D for a touch over £300 these days (there was two for sale at talkphotography (see sig) in the UK last time I checked).

The price difference between a 10D and a 20D probably isn't worth it in terms of functionality vs price - you'll save £50 and lose more than £50's of function.

if you do sports photography, why not consider upgrading to a 30d? versus the 3fps on the 20d or 10d, it would make a significant difference. then again, i do agree with the that you should at least upgrade to a 20d.
