I'm curious to know how long these things actually last. So: who's got the oldest one that's still in use?

I'll start the bidding, but I don't expect to lead it for very long: I've had my EF 50mm f/1.4 since April. So that's 5 months. Do I hear one year? Five years? Ten years?

I've had my 28-80, 75-300 and nifty fifty since october 1993. So that's almost 14 years.

I can't beat 14 years, but if you take care of your glass, which you obviously should, they can last pretty much for a lifetime (or more).

I've got a 100-300USM f4.5-5 that I've had since the very early 90's, can't remember exactly but it'll be 91-93.

I'll have to add that I've been using them all along those years. They aren't sitting on a shelf (not year round at least)

When did Canon switch from FD to EF mount anyway?

Nick, Canon's first EOS camera was introduced in March 1987, therefore, Canon switched to EF in 1987.

Sugarzebra's got a 50 from '62. Not EF, though.

I had a UF 85L. That's '91.

Ditto...it was my grandma's and before that her dad's. So it's pretty old. Nifty MkI owners FTW!

I think the leader so far is Jaetie with his 1988 nifty fifty. When in 1988 though? The EOS system was introduced in March 1987, so there's somewhere between 10 and 21 months of headroom left for someone to top him...
