40D + RC1??

This combinations seems not to want to work (40D + RC-1 Remote) any suggestions on how to get it working (If it does??)?

Remote control with N3 type terminal seems to be the only way.

Yeah it uses the same remote taht the 20d/30d's use.

RC1 is infra red remote. There is no sensor for it on the xxD series cameras. Sorry.

You need a wired remote like the RC-80 or TC-80

I have wireless on the 30d and I assume it will on the 40d using an adidt m1 wired remote http://www.adidt.com or just search ebay for adidt
this remote has a small phono type socket in the side into which I plug a zapshot wireless remote http://www.zap-shot.com/. while this setup may not be simple it works well.

Just out of curioisty, is there some logical reason why the 20D/30D/40D cameras don't have infrared receivers and the Rebel series do? If there is no technical reason behind this, it seems like a bit of a slight to the higher end cameras.

Well, dunno how logical you'll consider it, but the IR receiver's sited so it's really not all that useful except when you're in front of the camera; the low-end models are more likely to be used for family portraits where you need to be in the picture. The higher-end models connect to various radio remotes with longer range and omnidirectional capability for remote shooting and the like.

I think this remote will work Canon LC-5.
