Architectural photography with 1.6 crop?

Is anyone out there doing architectural photography with a 1.6 crop camera?

Or is it necessary to have the IQ/megapixel/FF of the 5D?

I was thinking it would be possible to do wider shots as panos
with the tilt shift lens or by turning the camera on a tripod...

I don't know if the IQ of the 10-20mm lens slapped on the 30D
is up to standards
being that its not an L and it has some distortion.

The 10-22 has very good IQ and is fairly good distortion-wise, but you can make it better with DxO Optics Pro. With this you can remove all the distortion. Actually, you'll want DxO regardless of camera.
