No I do not shoot for the NHL. OF course this would be a dream job but maybe one day I might succeed to this level.

Yeah, definitely would be an awesome job.

Well, at least you were able to get your DSLR and gear into Bell Centre (or were they practicing at another venue?). At Honda Center in Anaheim, we are not allowed to bring any camera larger than the typical P&S type when attending a game (why? I am not certain). My friend and I were turned away with our Rebel XTs and had to leave our gear in the car.

That is a rule from the NHL to protect the image of players and league. They were praticing at another venue.

Question for you. Did you ever take some pictures with the Rebel II of indoor sports and how they compare to the 40D. I like to know because i have a 350D and having all sort of problems nad focus issues with taking pictures inside an ice skating ring. It is not for hockey but figure skating.

Any help would be great. Or else it looks like I need to get my self the 40D because the pictures are very sharp and clear.

thanks

I had a 350D which gave me focus issues...AI servo sucks and Af also. I tend bought a 30D which I liked until I came across a great deal for a MarkII. I then traded the 30D against a 35mm 1.4L. I have now bought 40D since I need a 1.6x crop animals and motorsports. Af and AI servo is liek night and day from 350D to MarkII. I would say 40d is just a touch under MarkII. Very close to par with it.

You cannot forget that no matter how good yoru camera is, If you have slow lenses then your pictures will be off. For inside rink you need at least a f2.8 or faster lens.

thanks for the reply,
I even tried it with a 85mm f1.8 or a zoom 70 to 200mm f2.8 IS and still the same problem. Sound like the AF and the servo is too slow on the 350d. I am thinking to buy the 40D sounds like it might do the job.

Thanks

Makes perfect sense. Still, whenever I see photos of fans at a game and spot one wearing an SLR around his neck (rarely), I come to wonder if he was allowed to bring it in or how he sneaked it in.

There is also a technical reasoning behind their non SLR policy. I know they had some problems with pro's coming in with pocket wizards to trigger the wireless flashes.

Some sneak it in through the purse of their wife.
