First try at what I'm pretty sure would be considered macro

I took them with my XTi and mounted 430 EX (no off camera cord yet) bouncing it off of some printer paper.
The background was a piece of my roommates black drawing paper.
Hurray for being poor college students.

The first one I think the DOF is too shallow.
I'm still getting used to how distance from subject affects DOF.

The second one I like, but is it not "interesting" enough?
To me, it seems like most of what you see is one petal, and that makes it 'less good' for lack of a better way to say it.
Also, you can see the texture from the background paper.
This can be solved by moving the rose away from the background, correct?

The third one I think is my favourite.


The last one was without flash and was bracketed -2/0/+2.
I merged to HDR in Photoshop and messed with the settings a little and painted the rest of the background black to remove the paper texture.
It's my new background.

Closeups rather than macro- agree #3 came out pretty well
