Will you/did you upgrade to the 30D or the 40D?

My main question is how many people used/will use
this moment in Canon DSLR history
to upgrade to the 30D versus the 40D.
For those of you who didn't/won't upgrade
or went above the 40D

Well my upgrade path was 300D>30D>40D
I bought a 300D when they first come out, it was the first move to digital with SLR, I did not use it that often, over its life i had it, was great though for what I did use it, but when I got more interested in shooting football matches, 300D certainly had some flaws, so moved to 30D, 3 months ago, great camera, but moved to the 40D as I read it had better AF, tracking and a brighter view finder, for a good price, and it does on all those accounts.
I will prob get a Mk 3 eventually for the same reasons football, and sports in general.

My upgrade from P&S to bridge to 300D to 30D and next I'm thinking the replacement for the 5D will be the next step.

I'm very strongly considering jumping ship from the xxD line (I have a 20D) to the 1D Mk III.

Over 80% of my shooting would benefit from the higher ISO options and I've gotten to the point where I feel like the AF system on the 20D is a serious limiting factor.

Other than those two things I would probably keep shooting with the 20D for years, its a fine body and neither the 30D nor the 40D impress me enough to jump on the incremental upgrade.

Only three things stand in my way.

The money, but thats nearly dealt with thanks to some side work I've been doing.

The wife. Explaining the "need" for a $4500 camera isn't going to be a walk in the park.

The seemingly unresolved focus issues, but I have confidence Canon will figure it out and fix it.

I upgraded to a 30D from my trusty 300D mainly due to financial reasons. The average price for a 40D in the UK seems to be £750, I got a factory refurbished 30D body from the Canon Outlet on eBay for £430. This is a factory refurbished body with a UK Canon 1 year warranty. Its as new in the box with all the bits that normally come with it. At this price, the 40D wasn't worth the extra £300+

I am planning to get 40D as second body as soon as autumn rebates/cashbacks start. 40D has pretty much all the features (only thing missing is that viewfinder should show 100% about what gets stored by sensor) that I've been missing from 20D.
In addition to that, it will allow me to try, if two camera bodies on a road makes me happier than hiking with one. Even if I am not thrilled about using two cameras at the sametime, it gives me backup camera body, when one is needed.

Just got a 40d this afternoon, and waiting patiently for the batteries to charge. Hurry up damn batteries This was as a second body also, with my 350d being the first. So far it looks like the perfect upgrade for me and I cannot wait to get stuck in.

I personally can see no real world difference in pictures from a 40D or 30D. And apart from some minor tweaks they are essentially the same thing.

So I got a 30D + 17-40L for less than the price of a new 40D.......

I upgraded to the 40D and 70-200 F4 IS. have too admit I am more than a little impressed. Color contrast focus speed especially on L lenses is fantastic.

Upgraded from a 20d to the 40d, keeping the 20d as a my second body. Although I'm tempted to sell the 20d and get a used 30d, that screen is so small on the 20d.

The battery seems to last a lot longer in the 40d, I shot with both on sunday from about 7am til 7pm and had to change the 20d battery, the 40d still showed full and I took about 3x more shots with it.

I replaced one of my 20d's with the new 40d.

I was able to take it out for an afternoon of shooting and was blown away by the AF on it when compared to my 20d. It can track a fast moving object with ease and rarely misses. The frame rate on it rocks and the Buffer is insane at 75jpegs...which is 11 seconds of 6.5fps. I really liked the larger screen, and liveview was an added bonus that I have actually used a fair amount for product photography. They reinforced the Hotshoe a little bit more as well, which makes me happy.

My first DSLR was the 300D and I paid 1k for that beast. Compare that camera/price to what I paid for this camera, I feel like I got a great deal.

I bought a 20d 1.5 years ago and it hit the 100k clicks mark last month so it needed to be replaced badly. I didn't see the point of buy a 30d, since the 20d and 30d are very similar. The framerate and the new AF alone was enough for me to make the jump. If I was a landscape photog only, I'd just buy another used 20d. But if you are into action sports or weddings like I am, it was an obvious choice.

Went from the 300D as I wanted more FPS & better quality build, and to keep the OH happy (She has inherited it). Wanted the 5D or the mk III but couldn't justify the spend V divorce papers. LOL
I like the 400D but it's too tiny for me to handle, plus I'd have to put me reading specs on each time I picked it up (like I do with the 30!!).

Went to 40D from 400D. Used to have a 20D prior to 400D so was hankering to get back to the XXD line.

I went from a 400D/XTI to a 40D due to the fact that it's a leap from the XTI. IF I had the 30D, I would probably rethink a little more. Fortunately, the time that I bought the XTI, the 40D was about a month away from release. I wanted to have a light DSLR, hence, the XTI purchase over the 30D. In addition, I told myself whenever the 40D does come out, the XTI will serve a good second body.

Now here I am, an XTI and a 40D. A good combination I think.

Regarding going with an FF camera. It'll be awhile. At 2000+ for a 5D, I can't justify the cost of it now, nevermind the mark "series"

I went from 350D/Rebel XT to 40D. I will continue to use the XT as my secondary body.
