Spiders are venomous, not poisonous. The toxin is injected into the bite site.
While many spiders can cause local reactions and occassionally allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, only a handful of NATIVE spiders have a medically significant bite (the spider in your photo is not among them).
The most infamous of these would be the Black Widow followed by the Brown Recluse.
There are a handful of others here in the U.S. that can cause a medical emergency but are relatively obscure.
As a side note many people think the Recluse is quite deadly but in truth its bite only causes serious issues for a relatively small sample of bite victims. Most cases result in nothing more than a slow healing minor wound. In the unfortunate few the venom can destroy vast amounts of tissue both at the initial bite area as well as other part of the victims body.
The Black Widow is more dangerous but still deaths are exceedingly rare even without antivenin. It can however be excruciatingly painful as I can personally attest too.
These days I look, admire and photograph but no longer touch LOL!
