Currently have an XT, Tamron 17-55, Canon 70-300IS, Bags and a cheap tripod. I am considering trading up to an XTI and or a 30D.

I guess if I were to sell the XT (which I plan on doing) I could upgrade to a 40D. If I stick with an XTI, I would be able to afford some accessories (Flash, tripod, nifty fifty, macro tubes etc).

I'm not afraid of buying used, so maybe wait for a deal in the for sale section on here....Any thoughts??

Probably won't be able to check back until tomorrow evening, but figured I could get it started tonight.

Good question...I tend to be a jack of all (no?) trades. However if I were to go through my files the majority are going to have something to do with nature, followed by cars and city scapes and finally people (candid).

tough one.
the xti can be had from b&h, new for 595. thats 700 dollars under what the 40d goes for. I have it and am happy with it. the focusing is much better than the xt. If you had said you shoot sports I would have recommended the 40d. you should seriously consider a used 30 for around 750 (still 550 cheaper) and buying a macro lens (instead of tubes) and a flash with left over money. The sigma 500 super dg goes for under 200 new, or you can look for a good deal on a canon 430. you can buy a 3rd party (tamron, sigma ) macro lens for another 300-350.

That's what I was thinking. The XTi is a great camera. If your happy with it, why not invest in good glass? Then when you really upgrade, you will have a nice collection of glass to go w/ it.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is UWA?

I guess in a way I do shoot some sports, track days with the cars and bikes.

How about the 100 f/2.8 Macro? That one opened up a whole new world of shots for me.

UWA = Ultra Wide Angle. Generally speaking, it's the focal lengths way down in the teens and less, such as the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. My opinion is that you won't spectacular difference over what your 17-55 is delivering, but this is completely subjective and I can quite easily be wrong.

If you are after a new body, consider a used 30D, it is a huge step up from the 350D in handling and performance, although in pure image quality there is little in it.

And TBH you get everything that a 40D will give you at half the price. Thus 30D + nice glass for same price as 40D body.

canon 10-22 or 100 macro if you are happy with the ergonomics of the XTi. Otherwise, pick up an almost new 30D for $800 and sell the XTi.

I'd sell the XT on ebay (maximum price) and buy a used 20/30D here (maximum confidence). Find a reputable seller and you can't go wrong.

I agree, I would upgrade to a better body if you are comfortable with understanding how the XT is working and want more out of it...

Based on the kind of shooting you do, I would go with the XTi and put the extra money into glass.

My XTi does everything, and does it very well. XTi is pretty much a 30d, with the exception of a smaller size and is lighter (throw a battery grip on and you'll never notice). The few points that the 30d has over the XTi really concerns sports photography in my opinion. Not that you can't shoot sports with the XTi, but using the 30d (and MY NEW 40d) has doubled my 'keeper' rate speaking of sports photography.

So unless you need 6fps, 17 RAW Burst, and 3200ISO...save the money and go with the XTi.

Took your advice, bought a used 30D (200 clicks!! Thanks Cowboylife). Sold my XT on Ebay (shipped it out yesterday. Looking at maybe another lens or trying some studio lighting.

I have a Tamron 17 - 50 and Canon 70 - 300 IS, both are very good (Canon feels cheap but no issues with IQ). Was thinking a 60 macro, or an interfit 200 kit. I have never done any studio stuff and thought it might be fun...which is my motto - "if it's not fun, don't do it"

p.s. rowdy if you have any other advice, I just might listen...stock market etc...
