How the Heck did you land that?

My advice:

keep calm and enjoy- a privilege like shooting a pro sport is hard to come by (depending who you are :p). Try and make sure you know where your players are going, or at least think of where they would go. After a few downs, be familiar with the teams playing style so you know where to point the cam.

Good luck, post up when you are done!

Just curious...Aside from how you got the gig, are you shooting for anyone specifically?

Do they make you shoot with the XTi or any camera?

I wonder what if a Nikon or Pentax user won the contest, which I assume was sponsored by Canon, but using their own camera. :D

It is critically important to get the right lenses to get anywhere close enough to capture the action. Pros use 400/2.8 and 300/2.8 lenses. You could rent these or at least buy a 1.4TC for your 70-200. Sportsshooter.com has extensive info on shooting football.

have fun-
Scott

Went to a game a while ago. I am not much into the sport aspect of it. I was more interested in the gear people were using and how they were positioned. Everyone has the long glass. From 300 f2.8, 400mm f2.8 a500mm f4 IS and 600mm f4 IS. Saw one guy with all 3 400-600 lined up on tripods. He was hopping between them depending on where the action was. That's a hell of an investment. Some of them I am sure rent, but that gets pricey after a while too.

We just shipped out a 400mm this morning by FedEx. Shipping alone was $88 each way.
