There is something about the format of some of the winter race series that just works. Perhaps it is the absence of finicky classes that produces such excellent races or perhaps the reverse grids that do it. Perhaps it is the mix of tin tops & single seaters balanced against the gearbox superkarts and the more mainstream karts. Whatever it is it works.
From one such day at Manfeild last Sunday ...
An exquisite Ford Mustang being chased all over Manfeild by an equally perfect Chev Comaro

If Muscle cars are not you thing, okay then how about an incident packed Formula First race that included 3 red flags and some spectacular accidents in which I’m glad to say only the cars were damaged. Below is David Ruthven in his G11 Challenge

I’m told that the lap record at Manfeild is held by a Superkart. The ones racing on Sunday were the 125CC not the 250CC version. Nonetheless the Mustang was only in the order of 2 seconds a lap faster

And to finish how about a Porsche 356B? I am only aware of few in NZ and it is only Martin Sheffield’s that races.

Other classics included an Alfa Sud Ti, a Jensen Healey and a Z3 M Coupe that was being driven around Wellington the day before. The BMW, which wasn’t the fastest thing out there, almost had the last laugh when a strong rain shower went thought. Cars were sliding around, but the softly setup Z3 looked to be revelling in the conditions, until a major incident on the pit straight brought out the red flags.
Comments always welcome .... Cheers Dave
