Question to original poster: What is your purpose for 2 cameras? Are you a pro? Do you make side money doing photography? What type of photography do you do? Thanks.

From my prospective, she could support your hobbies. It's not you're going out and smoking crack or anything. You're buying equipment for your hobby and it's something you enjoy. If it's something you can't afford then there is a problem and I can see why she would be mad.

My girlfriend I aren't married YET, soon to be. I actually thought about selling one of my xt's to pay for part of her engagement ring. I even took pictures of it to sell but decided at the last moment not to. So one day(joking with her) I told her I was going to sell one of my cameras to help with the engagement ring and she said I'm glad you didn't. The ring is important to her but it's more important for me to keep shooting(even tho I have two of them).

She knows that I will be taking pictures of our kids so she is fine with purchases, just as long as we can afford it. I doubt I will be buying a 300mm lens anytime soon but It's nice to know she supports me, no matter how much a camera/lenses costs.

I did purchase my Canon 70-200mm F/4 for a wedding and told her that's what it was for. Didn't lie about it, didn't try to hide it(in fact, she was there when the UPS guy arrived) Made her understand that it was for a purpose.

Here's a suggestion: learn how to do good portraiture/glamour photography, then ask her to be your model and you'll start a glamour portfolio for her, set her up with a web page and all. I'll bet that'll at least that would put a smile on her face!

I'm not sure if this was already mentioned with regards to the OP (since I didn't read thru all 10 pages of this tread).

Your first huge mistake was putting both the old & new camera side-by-side on the counter! Major no-no! To the non-photo inclined, a black camera/lens is a black camera/lens. She probably never would have known the difference if you didn't play camera "exhibitionist"!

~Outta sight, outta mind!

If you do set up a web page, first make sure you yourself will be OK with all the weird and wonderful email that will be sent to her from all the singles out there. :p

dam bringing this from the dead. She dont care now. She was just bad then, it was that time of the month. So it was just a badddddd week to get the camera.

Why I have 2 bodies. The xt has done me good, has some wear and tear. Didn't want to sell it, as I have plans to convert it to fulltime infrared only. Hence why I bought the 40D and also cause im like my father, gotta have the latest coolest toys :p

Well, yeah, that's a whole other issue:)!

But, my point is, a great demonstration of our gear's value to our significant others is to show them at their best. This is, actually, not a joke, and not meant to be a manipulative ploy. Any time I get new gear, those closest to me become my models, and if that gear enhances my ability to get great quality expressions of them, well, they love it.

As far as pics on the Web, discretion is always advised. But, as an example, I practiced a lot with a girlfriend when I got my 30D some time ago. We've taken hundreds of pictures and, recently, she has taken a number of them and put them into an online portfolio for prospective actors and models.

My kids and my grandson, as well, use my pictures of them in MySpace because I've been able to capture something more than a snapshot of them -- something with a bit more character.

So, like I said, this is not a joke. We invest a lot in our photography, and we invest a whole lot into our relationships (or that's the way it should be), and my point is that these need not be mutually exclusive.

Have fun,

Tony

It does get strange when married;) I got myself a 1dsmk2 and she has a 30d,
I told her I was going to sell the 30 and let her have the 1dmk2,she was not happy and says she wants to keep the 30d as it has a pop up flash:rolleyes: so I guess I will be keeping 3 cams:D

Are you prepared to spend the rest of your life asking her if you can buy something with your money that you earn? You best talk it out now, not after you are married. Man up.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife and a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

I wanted to be a nude photographer, but when I went outside naked, everyone pointed and laughed, so I gave it up.

I came home with one earlier this week and my husband wasn't very happy when he found out how much I spent. He didn't understand why I needed another camera until I took a few pictures that made my 350D look crappy :)

Now we're both happy campers.

Breathless,

Well congratulations on your success. Now check back with us in 10 or 15 years when you have two or more kids and the luster has worn off the relationship.
