You need to be a little more subtle. When I collected guns I used to take them to the garage to clean them, one at a time. After a dozen trips she lost interest and the new one slipped in un-noticed:p. Then the "I've had it for ages" line worked like a charm. Then again maybe thats what led to the divorce:evil:

I since have found a much more understanding woman. She keeps asking me why I haven't ordered the new MK3 yet:lol::lol:

If youu're under 30, the only question to ask yourself is "is the sex THAT good?". If you're over 30, the only question you shiould ask yourself is "was the sex THAT good?". A "no" to either of those, and I would be tempted to call time on this one. If you reeeeally want something nice hanging 'round the house, don't get married, just hang a picture.;)

In a strange sort of way, all of this advice and help is better than what Dr. Phil can offer. It's almost like a mixture of Springer and Dr. Phil.

I have found the best way to get my wife to support photography is to involve her in many aspects of it such as on photos shoots as an assistant, a model for lighting tests, get her a camera and show her how you can make it dance with great pictures, take great pictures of the family at special events, decorate the house with your framed photos, etc....

Now days, I don't hear nothin' about a purchase.

Best reply here so far. Involve her and she'll understand. If you go sneaking around over a camera, imagine what it'll be like later when there's mortgages and children involved. LOL

I can understand why someone wouldn't understand why you wanted or needed a new camera but I don't understand why she was not happy and didn't speak to you. How is what you did considered a bad thing? and why?

I don't know the nature of your relationship but it sounds like you're walking on eggshells.

Dude!! You trying to say that sage advice from seasoned photographers who are providing an invaluable resource on tried and true tactics for smuggling cameras and lenses into the house is NOT about cameras? :)

This can be solved with a quick trip to Home Depot. Shopping checklist:

Tack hammer
Tarp
Rope
Shovel
Lye

Used in the above order. Some assembly required... ;)

(Need I say it? The above is all in jest.)

It actually annoys me a little that my wife is not into any hobbies. I bought her a sewing machine because I thought she wanted one. That was 2 Christmas's ago and it is still not opened. But it does give me more money for photography. Over the years I have worn my wife down so many times on things I wanted that she doesn't even balk anymore when I want something new. I said I wanted the 40d and she said fine - didn't even ask what the price is. I am in complete control of our finances so she really doesn't have a clue what we can and can't afford. The upside for her is that she never worries about money. But I do. So I get what I want, and she is stress free.

lol.. i was hobby free for a very long time, and incredibly bored with it, and it took a while for me to get back into photography, and i started out on a N**on, and jumped boat rather fast to canon. and ive been having fun ever since.

it took me 8 years to find a hobby again..and here i am happy as anything.
