Hello,

I'm sorry if the title makes me sound frazzled but that's just what I'm feeling... I'm a freelance reporter/photographer on deadline and OUT OF THE BLUE neither of the computers in my house will recognize my 30D!

Why is this happening???

Usually the window will flash "busy" as the pictures are downloading... now, it will flash "busy" once or twice and then stop and that's it. My battery is good... I have less than 4,500 clicks on my camera and just bought it in February... what is wrong with it?

:o

It seems there is some connectivity, If your using windows then may be auto launcher of EOS utility got corrupted. Do you see 30D in "My Computer?
If you dont have time for trouble shoot then pickup a card reader its essential accessory.

I do at the newspaper... I'll be heading out there if I can't get this to work. And then I'll be looking into buying one for myself to avoid situations like this in the future.

Personally I only ever put the CF in the card reader, never connect the camera to puter, never had any problems either

You can download images (if they're JPEG) by entering into 30d icon in my computer until you get the card reader.

What kind of card reader do you use? Can you recommend one?

it may be a simple suggestion but did you try re-starting the computer?

I did try this, on both computers. Because I'm having this problem on both cameras, it's leading me to believe it's actually my camera that is having the problem.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm going on 1 hour of sleep and wasn't thinking straight when I answered your question... No, it is not showing in 'My Computer.' For whatever reason I thought you meant if it was under 'programs,' under 'start.'

Okay, I'm running out right now to buy my much needed card reader...

But I'm curious... does anyone know why my camera did this? Is there something wrong with it and should I be concerned about this?

HeyEmmylou,

When you turned off the computer did you turn EVERYTHING off and then start again or just "restart". Usually somehting like this requires a complete hot reboot elaving the computer and external compnnents off for at least a minute.

Then start the computer and camera over again, I hope this helps.

Are you sure you haven't accidentally changed the Communication setting in the camera menu from Normal to PTP or vice versa?

Did you try plugging the camera into a different USB port? Or using a different cable?

It may be the connection rather than the camera itself.

Good luck!

Ruth.
