No, this isn't a thread from 2003....

It's simply that I'm picking up my 10D back tonight after having a brand shiny new infrared filter installed in it. Just in time for a visit to the Sierras next week.

Anyone have any hints/tips/tricks/must-reads for IR?

Awesome, congratulations!

I just had to look....I really thought it was an old thread being resurrected. I thought you just got your 40D last week ;)

Search for the Photoshop Channel Mixer stuff.

This site's got some useful info buried in it SOMEWHERE: http://www.khromagery.com/ (external link)

Did you get it done by Lifepixel?

I also have an IR modified 10D. Ok, you want the lowest possible ISO. Try like crazy to stay at 100. Past that, shoot some green grass in sunlight and use that as your Custom White Balance. Then just shoot like normal. Make sure you're using a lens that doesn't give hotspots.

I'm thinking about converting my 20D to IR. I hesitate just in case I want to sell it to fund something else I might need in the immediate future. It's not like I'm dying to have an IR camera at the moment, but it would be a nice addition.

There is a list of lenses in the Lens Forum that are good and bad for IR photography, i.e. which produce hot spots and which don't. You probably want to see of you can find that before you leave.

Yes, I got it done by Lifepixel for $350.

Thanks for the tips everyone and I'll be sure to check out the list of good and bad lenses. Although the way my luck is I'll probably have all bad ones....oh well, any excuse to buy a new lens, right?

And I just couldn't resist the thread title in these 40D times, even though I did start a 'getting my 40D' myself. (I'm still enjoying that 40D like crazy. :) )
