I usually avoid using auto focus points, I designate one, usually the center depending on the composition and the subject matter in the landscape.

Klynam, you had mentioned that maybe there is problem with my tripod or how I am using it. I have not read about tripod techniques or anything. I just thought that it was pretty obvious what do with the thing. I am using a Velbon Sherpa 600R. Could you elaborate on what I should be looking for?

Sure thing...

Your Velbon model looks pretty good. I thought you might have had a cheaper discount store tripod. Most of those have a thin little center pole that people will crank way up high rather than extending the legs. That puts the camera out at the end of a wobbly little pole, supported by spindly legs - a pretty unstable setup. Even mild wind could move the camera a little; or the mirror flipup could shake it a little. Would it make a huge difference? Probably not. But lots of little things can add up to affect your shots.

I'm still curious how a shot w/ your 50mm @ F/11-14 looks...
