Got out while it was still cool and caught this little guy warming up.
Still didn't exactly nail the Eyes but I'm getting closer.

C&C welcome and appreciated.

Thanks Brian and Joan.
I'm a slow learner, gettin old so the brain needs a kickstart now and then.
It just dawned on me yesterday to get out while it's still cool, before they get too active.

Shooting across the wings of a butterfly when they are fully open is not often aesthetically pleasing. Shot 1 isn't bad but it's why everyone is going for shot 2, which is a great shot of a pretty little insect. This not to say you should only shoot from this angle as it's good to experiment to see what works. Just before sunset is another good time to catch butterflies as they can often settle at the top of vegetation to catch the last rays of the sun. This one looks rather like the European grizzled skipper.

Aha, so that's why I like #2 as well then... :D

Seriously though, good advice from eccles, though the beauty of digital is that yopu can experiment and throw out the shots that don't work.

Yeah I had a front shot also but it didn't really work for me.
Thanks for the kind words and advice.
