I recently purchased a Canon Rebel 400d DSLR camera...and now researching and reading up on forums on the different types of lenses and filters I can purchased.

I also just placed an order for the 50mm lense.

Any helpful tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated...keke

Ask away, abuse the search function, read like mad. This is the best resource I've found for learing about shooting (with a Canon too) and the trends within.

It's a little adult in here compared to the rest of the internet and that is a good thing...

So what we need is to see some of your pics. What you shoot, where you shoot. it gives us an understanding of who you are and it might help us learn something too.

welcome.

Welcome to the boards. I shoot with a 400D as well. It's a very capable camera. You can search my username and check out some bird photos of mine to show what your new camera is capable of.

Do you know what kind of things you'd like to shoot?

Cool. I'll leave portrait advice to those who know more about it than I do. In fact, I think most people know more about it than I do. :p

Close ups meaning macro? If so, the Sigma 105mm Macro is a great lens for a very good price, I had one for a while.

I might be able to help with any XTi specific question you may have. Feel free to pm if you have any.

Hello there xxmx - welcome to POTN, and hello to another IT person :D. Is that you in the Avatar shot?

There are a wide variety of folks here of very diverse backgrounds, with a broad range of opinion and knowledge. Most of us are very friendly, ignore the sarcastic and grumpy ones .... we probably just haven't had our morning coffee yet. As cosworth said, use the search function and read whatever you can. Also, checkout members websites and blogs. I do and have learned a lot of the terrific images and styles I've seen. There are some incredibly talented people here.

Btw, how are your photoshop skills, or equivalent s/w? - Stu

That's good to hear Mary - you're ahead of the curve then.

I've been a serious photographer for several decades, but didn't know squat about CS2 until about a year and half ago. The folks here have helped me out immensley and saved me a ton of time of money in the process. Without them I'm sure I would have spent many frustrating and unproductive hours at my PC. - Stu
