First Wedding (still in training)

I have been assisting with a local wedding photography company over the summer. I have just started shooting as a 3rd photograph (still in training) a week and a half ago. A little background...the company uses 2 photographer, a lead and a photojournalist. I am in training for the photojournalist. The company shoots film (don't ask), the lead shoots color and use a variety of lens, and the photojournalist shoots B&W and uses a 70-200 lens. That said my images are generally tigher (headshots, details etc). The last 2 weekends I have been out shooting, and have been using my digital camera (20D) so they can critique my composition. That said, I don't set up shots, choose locations, etc. Here are a couple pictures from my first shoot. CC Welcome!

#6 looks a little washed out on my monitor but the rest really pop!

I think they look very nice.

Thanks. #6 is probably my least favorite. The horse drawn buggy was such a nice addition to the wedding. But the sky was overcast (even thought it was 90+ and humid). I did like how the sky looked in color, so I tried to make it look like and old school photo. Maybe a boost in contast would help it a little.

I think they're really good. The hug in #5 looks more awkward than genuine to me.. do you have one before or after when the further guy isn't looking away like that? I guess that's how men hug... I agree with Denise about the sepia. could use more contrast. The vignettes are a bit hard for my taste and I'd feather them more, but that's just me. I really like #2 a lot. So when you're done training, will you have to shoot film or can you stick with digital?

Hey Notapro...Having been there, I think #5 was genuine. But it is probably just guys. Hugging other guys isn't our specialty. lol

Yes, when I am done training I will have to shoot film! These two companies, who I like there work or I wouldn't be there...both shoot film only and swear by it. I have two Canon EOS 3's, one with a PB-E2 Booster. I love my Eos 3. But wouldn't choose film over digial for personal use.

Also, I have just recently discovered the vignettes....I am probably over doing it. I think the images I have processed since this, I have reduced it to 50% or so. Trying to back down a little. lol

I like them! The only ones that don't "do it" for me are the ones where you can tell they are posing for someone else's camera (#3 and #9), but it sounds like you are instructed to get those...

Thanks Jamie...yeah #3 and #9 are what I am supposed to get, except they would be in B&W. The lead photographer would be getting them head on (damn, I can hardly type "head on" without thinking of that damn commercial. If you don't know what I am talking about...lucky you! lol).

Dang - first the spider pic now this - my nightmares are really gonna suck tonight!

You better be careful, once they see the incredible images that you can get with digital there will be a lot of film hitting the bucket.....

The cost savings alone make it worth it in my books, I no longer pay £0.30 every time I press the shutter.

My recommendation, get a 5D and blow em away!

If they are shooting film and scanning, then really they are wasting money....

Having said that, I choose film over digital any day for my landscape work....horses for courses....

Nice work !

Personally, I like # 9 (not # 3), even though they are posing for other photographer. I think your PP making it look like a candid ... kind of old memory kind of thing.
Their expression really genuine.

My only comment is for # 4. I like it better if it is not tilted.
Well, if you like it tilted, I like it if you are more zoom in the couple, so all the marines with swords would be a little bit blurry.

Anyway, you work are very nice. I like the color and the vibrancy. Like it very much

I really like your PP on # 6, make it look like an old pictures from way back. Cool !

Thanks MCMADKAT! Both the photography companies I work for have about 4-5 teams. But the owners are both hard core film people. They swear by it. I will give them this...even though you have to pay more attention to your shots for $ reason...it is nice once you are done to sent the film to the lab and have proofs printed. No PP needed. What is the real cost of developing vs. PP time? I am hoping to get a 5D next year. I will need two digial bodies if I plan on starting my own deal.
