I just opened the box, threw the battery from my 10D into it, put in a CF Card, tossed on my Tamron 28-70 F2.8 DI and snapped this picture. I opened it up and said "WOW". I'm no pro so maybe it really isn't a wow but still.

Well, now that I see the pic resized for the web posted here it isn't so much a wow after all, the cymballs have little jaggies around them and whatnot. I'm still very happy compared to my 10D

Well, since you went from a 10d to the 40d (as I'm doing once the darn thing finally ships--should not have ordered from Amazon, but will just sit around and wait now), I'm interested to see what you've noticed as far as improvements.
Is it really that much more complicated or is it pretty easy to adjust to?
Is the AF really way better? That and decent high iso are what I'm looking forward to. Oh, and is the viewfinder really noticeably different?
Nice first photo, by the way!

I've just come from the D60 to the 40D, and I found that there is so much to learn for me!
The D60 is just so basic in comparison to this baby...
I am slowly getting used to it, but I have been a bit low with it for a while as I couldn't/cant get my head round all of the custom functions. I hadn't changed a setting on my D60 for 5 years, and I have been struggling to get the custom functions sorted out.
One thing is a big plus is the much better and brighter viewfinder.
When I know what to do with it 100% im sure its a great camera.
Ben
PS: Get the camera grip, as everyone thinks you are a pro, and gets out of your way...Love it :-)

I don't see any jaggies. Are you viewing this on a 42" monitor?

Mine came this morning, upgrade from a 350D. What a camera, its got a real sence of urgency about it... live view is superb for quick focus checks and the view finder is huge compaired to the 350D... very very pleased with it.

When i first bought a dSLR my 350D coming from a Fuji s9500 it seemed so quick and i loved it... the 40D is extremely quick and much quicker than my 350D, I love it. Can't wait to use it properly this weekend.

Ben: your post somewhere else mentioned your d60 and that has me a little nervous. I don't change lots of settings each time I shoot--I usually use the center focus point, but think it should be interesting to use other points. The 10D is a pretty simple camera to use--and that's one of the things I like. But I think I'll grow into the 40D. Can't wait, even if it is a bit of a steeper learning curve.

You're probably not viewing the web page 1:1.

Jaggies, schmaggies - it looks great.

And it has a 40D look to it, too - there's a certain smooth, "fine" look to the pics I'm getting off my 40D (because of the smaller photosites on the sensor? God knows) that I can see here too, and in the BG to Randy's picture.

The hi-hat stand looked sharper than anything I ever shot with the 10D and that was the first time I pressed the shutter button on the thing. Maybe my 10D needed work, who knows.
