The answer is no, the 400D is not weather sealed, if it is raining hard enough for water to sit 0n the Camera, hence it will seep in side it will possible short circuit, and bang, as on other poster said, plastic bag and rubber bands, or anything to keep it dry as possible

Photographic Images on Brett Butler (external link) px500 (external link) & Flickr (external link) Some Canon Bodies , few blackish lenses, A dam heavy black one, couple dirty white ones, a 3 legged walking stick, a mono walking stick, and a bag full of rubbish

I would think its up to you! Even if you have a fully sealed body like the MK2, and a weather sealed L glass, its not a good idea to have the camera out in open raid for anyhting longer that a a few secounds. you need to cover all cameras in the rain

So really it just just up to you. Can you seal it up good with rubber bands, tape and plastic bags? are you willing to risk it?

Your camera is not weather sealed.

Try a wal-mart bag this time and then buy:

Ditto on the stormjacket. I use it for dust mainly and I like it.

I use a plastic bag all the time in the rain for my body. Lens can get wet :)

I cover my camera/lens with a shower cap. Easy on, easy off.

I am new to the board.

Let me share with you what I have used, and have done it traveling all over the World.
Get one of those plastic cases that come when you buy linen, they usually have a zipper, so I place the entire camera including the lense and when not in use just zip off the camera.....The best place is at Bed and Linen store...

Yea but I think they want to be able to take pics while its raining. needing the lens open, and the eye piece at least behind something clear. Not to mention access to controls.
