Having a lot of pixels certainly does come in handy from time to time. It's really nice when you can't get close enough to your subject and need to crop. Now don't go crazy on me. I shot with the 300D and 6.3mp for quite a while, and I did quite well with it. Now that I have the 40D I can definately see a difference. Aside from all the wonderful improvements to the camera itself, having all these extra pixels really shows me just how crazy-sharp my 70-200 f4 L can be.

This thread would be nothing without pics, so here is an original shot, and a 100% crop to show just how nice it can be to have the extra pixels on the subject:

I have to say that the 40D is great. I have found it to be better all-around than my 30D was. The AF is just amazing. I was playing around with my wife's 28-105 (mkI) to see how the AF would perform on low-contrast subjects inside, and it barely hunted at all unless there was just a flat surface with no contrast at all. Any little bit of contrast seemed to be enough to get QUICK focus without hunting. That's not bad at all.

Sorry mate that 100% crop looks horrible, What ISO did you take that at ? I think you may have over sharpened the img or something is not right, looks very noisy.

Probably did oversharpen. I spent about 4 seconds on the RAW conversion, and didn't mess with much of anything... I'll see how the Jpeg itself came out.

I don't think he asked for a critique, mate. :)

Yup... Looks like I over-sharpened that one. Here is one straight from the camera... Standard Picture Style:

On my laptop I see a very tiny difference between Brad's shots. Any comments on my crop since you can see better than me?

The main thing that is making me crazy right now is that I can't open my RAW files with CS2. That just sucks. I'm not familiar with doing the RAW conversion in DPP, and I don't really want to buy any new software.

On the bright side, I'm quite happy with the way the JPEG images have been coming out. Even in plain-Jane Standard Picture Style, almost all of my shots come out 'pretty good' and I know that most could be used AS-IS or with minimal PP. I just get picky and would prefer to do the conversion myself.

Yeah that looks way better, nice :)

For those others that quickly came to the "rescue", I think the OP is man enough to take a valid comment and speak for himself.

It was not a comment made with any malintent, just an honest opinion, didn't take a rocket scientist to see that first 100% crop didn't look right.

Second one looks good.

If the OP had not wanted peoples opinions he wouldn't have posted images on a public forum or said so in his original post.

Did I miss some new rule where only certain people are allowed to give opinions about an image or where all opinions must be praise even when something is clearly wrong with it, as the OP admitted to himself and was able to quickly fix in a split second for the benefit of anyone else looking at the pictures so they can get a more accurate representation of the point he was trying to get across.
