It's all good...

Cheers :).

I just don't understand why some people are so quick to jump the gun and think everyone is trying to have a go in some bad way towards another.

Only trying to help.

On my laptop I see a very tiny difference between Brad's shots. Any comments on my crop since you can see better than me?

Don't know if the smiley means this is a joke, but I'll treat it seriously just in case :) The boat looks out of focus to me. Hard for me to tell for sure without seeing the whole photo at 100% zoom to see if it's missed focus or motion blur or what.

DPP is a very simple program to use

P.S. watch those horizons;)

Horizons always get me when I am trying to get quick shots. It didn't help this time that I was elbow to elbow with people and trying to shoot over a horse's ass.... Yes, literally... There was a horse parked in front of me.

There have been quite a few people wandering around the forum being a PITA lately. There are a few that seem to just go from thread to thread trying to start crap or get people going. If I had put some actual work into making that crop look the way it did, I probably would have taken some offense, but since it had just been a really quick one, I looked closer and saw you were right.

You might want to watch your phrasing a bit. It's hard to convey exactly what you are trying to say online, and it's really easy to have signals get mixed up. Just a thought.

No. No joke. Always feel free to C&C anything I post. The boats were doing about 140mph. I'd like to do this again. I would crank up ISO and Tv.

If you go to my smugmug site, you can look at the originals.

The 100% crop of the boat does look a little out of focus but now knowing that the boats were moving at such high speed I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned using a higher shutter speed. Then again what was your original speed ?

That one was 1/500 with the 100-400. I slowed down even more to attempt pans and it didn't work very well.

Just trying to keep things in line around here. A comment like "it's horrible" has the potential to quickly spin out of control. Typically, unless the user specifically asks for help or a critique, those are usually reserved to the critique and sharing forums.

Something we all learn around the age of 7 or 8. Those who continue to use inflammatory words should be presumed to be aggressive. And treated appropriately.

Personally, I tend to punish these people by making them read long words and complicated phrases.

Cool, just wanted to make sure. I recently offended somebody by disagreeing with that person and was accused of being belligerent and making personal attacks when I thought I was carrying on a civil conversation, so I'm tiptoeing a bit more carefully around sensitive subjects. We don't have the benefit of inflection and facial expressions when discussing things on a forum, so I figured I'd be extra careful for a while.

I checked out the full res photo and can't see any other area more in focus than the boat you focused on, so it's probably not misfocus. But just because my eyes can't spot it doesn't mean it isn't there. I'm used to judging focus accuracy with sports played on grassy fields, not on water :) Also, it looks like you had more success with boats moving from side to side within the frame than ones heading toward you, so it could very well be that the AF isn't keeping up. I've never tried shooting racing, so I could be completely wrong; just a guess. If nothing else, the suggestion above to up the shutter speed is a good idea to see if it's just simple motion blur.

I think we are big enough boys and girls here to be able to take a simple comment like "it's horrible" when appropriate and used in the correct context, in this case noise/sharpening.

No one was being rude or using what would generally be considered offensive language. Some could consider it a little harsh and I apologize if it came across this way , I don't think the OP did as he could also see the image was overly sharpened. This was in no way "inflammatory".

Things have been a bit touchy lately, and the OP was just delighted to share photos from his new camera. You meant no harm and the OP took no offense, which was fortunate. With another poster, things could have been perceived differently.

Let's just considered it water under the bridge. :)
