Nice butterflies Joan. Esp. like #1 beautiful, very striking.

Thanks so much Brian. He is only about a half an inch in length....very small and they do not get much bigger than that. The second one is about 1 inch and the last one some where in between the two.

Joan, I see from the exif that you shot #1 at 1/500 F3.2 iso 100. To get more DOF try a higher F number say F8 or more.

It might be the time of night, but #2 looks a little strange to my eyes. Possibly because the body is not sharp?

Then it could always be the bottle of merlot I had to finish tonight.

LOL!!! The merlot sounds like you had a good dinner.....or was it after dinner?
You are right Bernie the body is not too sharp....I was struggleing to take a pic of this one as it would not settle down long enough for the sensors to focus, but this is the best of the lot.

Thanks Scott....had some fun with it...as it is so small, I was basically crawling on the ground trying to take a pic of it...there were some people riding past and I got the wierdest looks and comments LOL!!! It was great fun as they could not see the butterfly. Must have thought I had a bottle of merlot in me. LOL!!

LOL!! I see you remember the "brandy" remark. Thanks for the comment Jim. I am still plugging along practicing!! One of these days I'll get it right.

#1 for me, what a lovely shot of a beautiful butterfly. #2 and #3 have some blur to them, either the butterfly moved when you took the shoot, or you had some camera shake. I've found that most butterflies do not like electronic flash, and they will move when it's fired.

Not the best shots by far Dave, but the best I could get. I could not get these critters to stay in one place long enough!! I did not us a flash though. All were taken in very bright sunlight. Thanks for the comments. I just have to try harder next time. LOL!!
