yeah, I even googled the name and went to their site to see if they listed inserts... They don't (that I could find)...

So did you just call them then?

I didn't see them on the site either so I dropped Mike an email over there ichael@naneupro.com (external link)

He emailed Mike ... ;)

The insert looks great and I like being able to take it in or out and use the Crumpler as a gear bag or just for whatever. $32 at REI for the bag too..couldn't say no to that!

Wow, long day, I missed that entire post (which is probably very obvious by now!)...

OK, one last question though (and maybe I missed this too, but I went back and reread again): Which insert is that (which bag is it for) and did you get the prices on any of the other inserts?

Thanks!

yep, gave em a call after emailing Mike, and asked if they'd sell me an insert for their Echo bag and it was no problem. Ask for Michael. Didn't get any other inserts priced but I can't imagine they could be much different.

awesome.
I'll have to sit down with a tape measure tonight and see what the best fit is for my crumpler wine bar then.

Thanks.

yeah, I will be once it all falls in line. The insert is the first step. Once I figured out the 650 insert works I didn't use it because I also use that bag... So that slowed me down a bit, but I also need a zipper person once I get the right insert...

I'd love to get this done right though as I know I'll love it once it's done.

Thanks for the motivation!

must be all those years in the witness protection program keepin me on the DL.... got the insert from Michael at www.naneupro.com (external link) Great guy and they shipped out same day. The real question is whether Nate now:

a) sells the 7mdh
b) keeps the 7mdh disregards the Frankenbag, or
c) keeps the 7mdh and builds a Frankenbag thus making him the Imelda Marcos of camera bags.

Nate?

Hehe. Well, I'm about to put up a thread that will answer your question. But it looks like i'll still have room for my laptop. Um, how deep is that insert? Doesn't look too deep. Still, do you have something...a ruler would be fine to just stick in and see where 8" winds up at?

I'm guessing 8" winds up at, umm, about 8"? :p Seriously, the insert is about 11x7.25 (the actual usable internal width is roughly 6.5"). Saw that you had room for that laptop so you might be set. On the other hand, for $20 shipped, you now have the DE as an option that would square you up for anything you wanted to take with.

Nice job on the Crumpler thread too. Udaman! BTW, what Jeep are you driving? I've been in Jeeps for the last 15+ years. On my second Wrangler right now. L lens or sweet lift kit and 35's?? Hmmmm.

OK, checking out their site and after measuring my bag, I'm looking for 2 different inserts... To use my bag from the top (which mean I buy and insert and I'm done) I need something 12" long x 8" wide then as tall as they make it... That looks to be the insert for the "Alpha" at 11.4" x 7" x 5.9" (external link). If I want to get into having a zipper installed, then it's the C400 insert which is 14" x 6.75" x 9". (external link)

I'm going to email them now, and setup a time to call and order these. Thanks a lot for all the help.

right on, I'm really glad it helped. makes me feel like I contribute here as well as take away. post the final product when you're done and let Mike know how much interest there seems to be, he'll be stoked on that I bet.

I should add this too, despite the original title, I really have no interest in Star Trek (not that there's anything wrong with that!). My wife gave me grief about it !

I'm a sailer, so it didn't strike me as star trek at all... Wouldn't it need to say "stardate" before the date anyway? I'm not a treky either that. Star Wars fan maybe. :)

Hmm, this is very cool. I use a Simms drybag for my gear when fishing or kayaking (or rainy days) and just have stuff thrown in the sack. This insert looks like it would fit nicely and protect and organize my gear. I emailed Mike about buying one. Anyone use it on a Simms drybag backpack?

Here is a link to the Drycreek bag I have: http://www.simmsfishing.com …S&CAT=vests&PROD.ID=21476 (external link)

that Simms looks really nice. I might even look into one of those and jsut move the insert from pack to pack. Here in NE Ohio, we get lots and lots of snow so having something waterproof is going to be key to winter shooting. Thanks.
