im fairly new at this whole macro thing, was at down at the river a few days ago and shot this. Would like some critique! thanks!

It's some type of Damselfly. A little oof I think. I know they're difficult to capture on camera.

i was a little too close and the focus is a little off. Gotta start somewhere!

Not close enough. The plane of focus is in front of the insect. Keep it up though, you're nearly there. You got down to the same level as the insect, and had it been in focus would have been quite a nice shot. :)
