Was thinking of picking one of these up before i head over to spain to shoot a wedding in a few weeks.
Does anyone know how this compares to the Canon 100mm Macro.
Im not really wanting to pick the canon up just yet (price) as it'll just be used for some detail shots etc.

Thanks.
John

Some reading you might find helpful here http://www.the-digital-picture.com …Di-Macro-Lens-Review.aspx (external link)

Also sample pictures ... http://pixel-peeper.com/lenses/?lens=45 (external link)

I heard it's a decent lense (if you can get a good copy).:)

I've used it before and it can deliver great images...very sharp and very similar to Canon in terms of image quality. Ultimately, I prefer Canon's AF and the fact that it doesn't extend when focussing.

Cheers guys. as always when i buy gear. i will end up buying the tammy for now then eventually upgrade to the canon 100mm when funds allow. :D

As long as the focussing is ok on the tammy i'd be happy to buy it as ive seen sample images of it and the IQ is certainly there

The Tamron 90 has better color than the Canon 100mm.

I've got it and love the IQ, but I'd be happier with the USM on the Canon one. As a Macro lens there's not much in it, but if you want to double it up as a standby short tele the Canon is a better deal. I don't use mine enough to justify the extra expense though.

If cost is the issue, drop a PM to Kerso on this forum. He is based in Scotland and will probably get close to the Tammy's price for the Canon.

The new Sigma 70mm f2.8 Macro is getting some pretty amazing reviews and only costs £300GBP - take a look at my post in the POTN lens section

The sigma 150mm is a stunning macro/portrait lens, but might be a tad long for you.
