Right folks,

Apologies in advance if I am about to make a fool of myself.. but here goes.

I am looking for a replacement for my 20D, mainly due to perceived poorer AF performance and higher iso performance, all this may be operator error but we will leave that aside for now.
I am shooting mainly wildlife of all sorts, big zoo animals, horses and down to garden birds.

The contenders

5D - full frame 12mp
Used Mk2 N 1.3 crop and 8mp
New 40D 1.6 crop and 10mp.

So the question is lets say we have a 300mm lens on all 3 bodies and we crop the first two options to give a similar image size in photograph, which of the above will give the best IQ? - is it simply pixel density of sensor?, or something more complex?

A second question is - without cropping which would yield best image quality or would they be so similar that I wouldn't notice - ideally I would like to print A3 size.

Many thanks for any views

Rob

for your purposes, you'll want something longer even if the quality goes down. 40d is a great option for that.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

You might get all sorts of answers to this as there are many differing opinions about all sorts of issues.
However in the end the 40D is the newest technology and is probably the best option for you.
