Just received my 40D, Will have my 30D for a few more days before I ship it to my wife in Alaska. Also have a 5D, and a 1DMarkIIN for that matter. Also have just about every major "L" lens with the exception of the 50 1.2L. Also 2 superteles a 300 2.8 amd 500 4.0.

I am taking requests for test images. What would you like to see over this weekend. BTW I have access to DUCKS, the real and surreal and perhaps some screaming A-10s, Tornados, C-130s and maybe even some F-16's depending on how frisky the Air Force is this weekend.

Let me know either thru direct post here or PM. I am going to be jacking around with my gear all weekend so now is your chance if you have something in mind.

You got it, that will be number one on the list, any particular lens you would like to see these shots with? However, I don't consider 400/800 as low light, but its your request, so I will comply. However, I may have to wait until tomorrow evening.

Definitely some noise testing, especially 30D vs. 40D. A whole range of different shots if possible. :D I'm thinking mainly ISO 800/1600/3200.

I also wouldn't mind seeing some landscape shots playing around with the 40D's new Highlight Priority mode.

Nice thread though, thanks for the effort!

Yes, high-ISO noise comparisons with equally-framed scenes using identical lighting, aperture, etc. Take it stopped down enough that depth-of-field differences won't be a factor. Try to keep all aspects of the images as equal as possible. My thoughts would be to use the 70-200 zoom (if you have one) and zoom it to match framing rather than moving the camera. It's a very consistent lens throughout it's zoom range.

A few other scenes shot at more "normal" ISO settings would be nice to compare color, contrast, and detail.

Not interested in high ISO noise performance. I think we've all already seen enough samples of those.

Hmmm... Birds in flight? Air Force BIF that is. ;)

Looks like the perfect opportunity to compare the AI Servo tracking accuracy of each camera if you can swing it.

Thanks for the offer. No specific requests, but it will be interesting to see what you come up with.

Yeah great idea and good to put the effort in.

I did some comparisons with 5d and 40d today and am AMAZED by the bokeh difference at same apperture on diff bodies.. make the shot look the same (ie 45mm on 40d and 70mm on 5d) and the background is like a stop or 2 different in blur - with the 40d showing much more detail and the 5d showing great bokeh. i was blown away by the difference.

5d has more detail in the actual shot but thats expected with another few MP... colours seemed more vibrant on the 40D - vibrant in a 'false' way - seemed more true on the 5d. Was shooting jpeg standard though not raw so not a very accurate test. Seemed the reds were really red.

Like the top lcd on the 40d more now than the 5d... really like that it always shows ISO. Dislike that the buttons used are different now though - one uses main wheel (5d) and the other uses the top so when ya switch between em it in a hurry i stuffed it up a few times. The readout of info in the 5d VF is tiny at the bottom compared to 40d -easier to read - and the VF is bigger by ??10% total guess maybe a bit more but it doesnt bother me one bit - 40d is BIG and 5d is simply Massive! :) just my initial observations - not trying to hijack ya thread or anything nor start fights... just what i found with a day of playing today...

Cheers, Nicko

I would very much like to see some comparison shots. Day light and low light would be great to see at ISO 800, 1600 and 3200.

OK, I am off in about an hour to go duck hunting with my marching orders. If there are any last minute requests lets have them! For those that want to see a picture of my gear, I will have to ponder that one. I would rather be taking pictures than engaging in graphic gear porno and besides it is way to embarrasing. :o:o

1. I am taking a 40D and 30D with a 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 IS and a 300 f/2.8 IS. I will use a tripod as much as possible but will hand hold as well. I wil also keep things as equal as possible re: f stop, stopping down, iso, blah blah blah. I am also going to throw the 5D for grins ;)

2. I will concentrate on ISO 800, 1600 and 3200 but will throw in some lower ISOs as well.

3. I wil shoot RAW + Small jpg -- unless anyone as other suggestions. Will be interesting to compare the pure RAW to a camera processed jpg. I will do no post processing except for WB and set both cameras to neutral and set in camera sharpening to zero.

3. I will attempt, birds in flight, airforce jets, and other identified or perhaps unidentified flying objects to give the AI Servo a work out.

4. This evening I will do the low light stuff with some fast lenses i.e. 35 f/1.4, 85 f/1.2, 50 /1.4, 50 f/1.0, 135 f.2.0 [why not].
