I like to rename my files using "A" as the color photo and "B" as the black and white and then "C" as any special effects (cross processing, LOTR)

Is there a way to patch processing in photoshop and have it rename my files to add an A, B, C?

Example:
IMG_001_A.jpg
IMG_001_B.jpg
IMG_001_C.jpg

I don't know if there is a simple way to do it to be honest MrsOpie. I know it can be done using scripts, but that's a much more advanced feature in Photoshop. Are you using Lightroom at all?

I'm using lightroom as well. Should I just try and output from RAW to jpeg and add my "_A" to the file? What about my black and whites? :(

Great that you're using Lightroom - I have the perfect solution for you (hopefully).

When in the develop module, after you've done one full edit to the photo (i.e. Color), press Command (PC: Control) + N to create a new snapshot and call it something appropriate (i.e. "Color").

Do your next edit (i.e. B&W) and again, press Command (PC: Control) + N to create a new snapshot, and call it something new (i.e. "B&W")

Repeat this for any other version you want to have, and then, with the photo still selected, press Commong (PC: Control) + ' (appostraphe) to create a "Virtual Copy" of it, for every effect you want. Then, in each version, change the snapshot to a different one.

Now you'll have 3 (or however many edits you have) versions of the photo.

I hope this helps ...

The thing is I just adjust white balance and exposure in Lightroom then I open them up in Photoshop for batch processing with Kubota actions. I really like the Kubota Mocha Black and White for all my black and white conversions so I would like to stick with that.

Ah, then my solution won't work! LOL

I don't know what to tell yeah - if you are interested, do some reading up on Photoshop Scripting, I know it can be done with that, but it's pretty advanced.

What if you use a label to group them then batch rename accordingly?

That's what I would do too.

You just confused me...It totally depends on how she utilizes the organization in lightroom.

I'd go through star what I want and color code accordingly. Then I'd batchrename the files. I'd then sort by color label and batch rename to add the A, B, C thing. Then do the exporting.

I can take the original color files and batch rename adding the _B and then convert them to black and white in photoshop. I'll have to play with it but I think it will work.

When you're done playing in Lightroom, just click Cntl E (pc) or Cmd E (Mac) to go immediately to PS. When you finish your edits is PS, DON'T click "save as", but rather SAVE. Then click LR again (still open) and there will be your image with the PS edits applied. Now follow bcaps suggestions.

Does this work?
