I was just wondering...what is the present state of availability of the 40D over there, and what are the typical retail prices for the body alone - agent issued sets, not grey?

Thanks!

$1299 is the going price. It's available at most of the reputable mail-order firms (B&H, Amazon, Adorama).

Some of the smaller camera shops also have them in stock; though some of them have the kit kens for $1499.

I picked up mine on the 12th. It was the last NIB they had. I paid $1299 plus tax. The store said they would be getting more but didn't know exactly when.

I just picked my up, altho it took me a bit of muscle. You see I called Canon USA and asked to speak to Product Mgr or Mkt. I was able to speak to Marketing.

I told them that I was a long standing Canon customer but was very frustrated that every major store were out of stock and it seemed unfair that Canon was creating such a big hype etc.

Well, it worked within 5 minutes a store called me to tell me they were holding one for me. I went to the store drove to my adjacent state (no sales tax) and they had 4 in stock and the guy told me that they'll be getting more, go figure

I walked into a camera store in Northwest Arkansas and they had 1 body and 2 kits. Their sister store in the next town had just sold out of all bodies and kits. I saw a kit on display in Best Buy but don't know how many they actually had available in that store. The one store had the body for $1299 and all the kits were $1499. That seems to be the price everywhere.

The stores here were out of all the lens I wanted so I bought the kit. I did find one store that had the 100-400 lens but they wanted $1950 for it and that is about $500 more than B&H.
