I currently own (2) 2G Exreme 3 CF Cards and (1) 1G Ultra II CF Card. I was thinking of adding a forth or fifth card now that I have a 40D to pair with my 30D for races.

I was reading some reviews on BHphoto and it appears at least one user has had issue with a 30D not being able to read the full 12G of a Sandisk Extreme 3 card. The camera I guess can only read 8Gs for this user?

I was thinking of perhaps purchasing an 8G, 12G or maybe even go all out and 16G Sandisk card, just because. Anyone have much experience with these big cards in either camera if 8G is the limit that would make my choice fairly easy.

Personally I would never purchase a 8gb let alone maybe a 2gb. I've had them corrupt on me before and read peoples post having trouble recovering them. I rather have 8 1 gb cards and have one crash then have 1 8gb card and have it corrupt on me. It's not worth it, trust me! haha,

The 1G cards can be a bit small at some of the races I attend...

there is no limit before 16gb when it comes to type I/II cf cards. you can't format the card in camera, but you can use it all.

I am using a 12GB extreme III on my 40D with no issues(also have 4GB and 8 GB). I would never have 12- 1 GB cards. The cost is cheaper to buy larger cards and you dont have to change every 200 shots. I can shoot 1500 images in a day covering tournaments. Changing constanlty and keeping up with all the cards would not work. Make sure you have backup cards and buy what works best for the way you shoot. JMO

On the other hand, if the 12 GB card goes bad you have all of your eggs in one basket. I'd rather spread them just in case.

8GB is the largest card for the 30D. The 40D should be able to use 16GB cards.

I shoot ALL 8GB cards (and no NONE are SANDISK). I shoot a lot of airshows and I carry 13 8GB cards with me (one in the camera and 12 in 3 seperate card holders). Since I get about 500 on a card, I can shoot about 6500 RAW images. Generally, by the end of the day, I've used about all the cards. I may have one or two empty. I've never had a problem and I've never lost data. I use RIDATA, TRANSCEND and PNY, all work fine. I also always use 266C which makes a difference. I also use 2 external CF card readers (Lexar Professional) which lets me download 2 cards at a time into one laptop with an external drive (420GB), which I SYNC onto another drive.

Works fine for me, and a lot easier than switching 104 1 GB cards around.

Dang, Mark H, how long does it take to edit 6500 RAW?

plain wrong. 30d can use 12 and 16gb cards as well, but they cannot be formatted in the camera. 40d can format 16gb cards though.

What's the limit in a 350D? Would a 12 or 16GB card work to full capacity?

Lionel (basroil) used a 12GB card in his 350D and it worked just fine... Assuming 16 would work the same. Just make sure to format it with your computer and not with the camera.
