Looks like it's winding up

We had some pop up showers all afternoon and really wicked cool looking cloudy sky. Does this type of cell or cloud formation have a name?

The cloud in behind looks like a towering cumulus or maybe cumulonimbus (thunderstorm). There appears to be rain falling in front of the cloud giving the unusual effect in combination with the high sun. It's hard to tell if the rain is making it to the ground, but if it does not get to the ground before evaporating due to the apparently very dry air, it is referred to as virga.

Otherwise a nice capture. Nice sharp shadow in the foreground.

Did you use a GND filter on this or apply graduation in PP?

I used a 1.2 GND filter (hard edge) and some PP; a little burn and dodge in the clouds and adjusted curves/exposure some.

really cool. I'm a sucker for a good cloud shot to begin with, but that is a really unique catch!

Both of those images are amazing but it seems that your filters have a purple tint to them... are they cokins?

I have 2 cokin nd filters but the one I used wasn't cokin, I forget who makes it. It's not 1.2, all it says on it is ND0.9 GRAD....... it's rectangular like the cokins but a little thicker and a little bigger as it barley fits in the cokin holder. The corners are cut off of it too.

Inchman had the right idea on what type of clouds they were, but neither image shows a full cumulonimbus cloud. The first one is indeed enhanced by the rain that is falling, making it look quite unusual; looking at it really close it almost seems as if the rain is coming out of a stratus cloud more than a growing cumulus.

The second picture its' hard to tell what the cloud on the left actually is, beings all you can see if the bottom of it. The clouds off to the right are definitely some good growing cumulus that likely continued into some decent thunderstorms.
