Holy Smokes!!

I can hardly type my hands are shaking so much...............I just ordered the 30D and Sigma 17-70 from B&H!

What do all of you use to protect the LCD on the 30D?

Sorry to cut this post short, but I think I'm going to pass out or throw up from my nerves!

:o

Thanks

Most use nothing. There's already a user replaceable plastic protector over the lcd.

If you can manage to damage the plastic protector that the camera came with, let me know how you did it. After one year's busy and hard use, I don't even have a scratch - just nose grease (which comes off with a shirt sleeve).:)

BTW, someone said somewhere on some forum that if you manage to break the protector (that it comes with) the guts of the camera are probably mangled.

Relax, the camera is tougher than you think.

It's for using and enjoying, not worshipping.;)

I have one each for my Rebel XT and 40D. It is expensive for an applicable LCD shield, but it functions just as claimed. I like the lifetime guarantee, too.

I don't really see how you can scratch the LCD screen and not seriously damage the rest of the camera. The cover on the screen is nearly indestructible. No need for protector.

I have one of these for my smart phone, I was convinced after watching the demo videos, they are pretty much indestructible. I'm going to get one once I buy a 40D. (my 20D is already scratched.

I have one of those screen protesters too. I've had one on my Nokia N80 for awhile and I don't have a scratch on it, so I stuck one of my 30D and it has been working great so far.

The 17-70 is lighter than my 17-55 but still I think it will make the 30D front-heavy enough to clear the display from buttons and zippers when hanging from the neck. Those were the hazards I feared.

Edit: A bulging belly helps immensely ...

Hey, great point agedbriar! I was worried my belt buckle would scratch the LCD. But maybe it will hang lower in the front, keeping the LCD up a bit.

I also noticed something while walking around Friday afternoon. I saw a gentleman with a digital slr slung around his shoulder, but instead of the lens pointing out and the lcd close to his body, he was carrying it the other way around, the lens was close to his body. I suppose that exposes the lcd, but the lens would be better protected.

Thanks everybody!

I carry my XT (with the grip installed) that way – over my left shoulder, across the chest, hanging down on my right hip.

I have installed hand strap upside down, so the double-hole buckle is at the bottom.
One side of the neck strap is hooked up to the upper left, and the other side to the bottom right corner of the camera (looking from the back).

That way, when I walk, back of the camera is pointing up with nothing touching LCD screen and buttons, and the lens pointing straight down, protected from bumping into things, and making it easier to walk with.

I don’t have grip for my 40D at the moment and it is kind of difficult to get used to the ‘regular’ way again.

Folks, it really is difficult (unless you truly TRY) to scratch Canon's LCD protectors. They are really tough. You don't need to waste your money on any "protector" for the protector issued with your camera.

Mine is scratched. I wish I wasted my money before it got scrached.

The original Canon replacement LCD cover will set you back cca $20 and you’ll change it yourself..
