Mike I've tried one of those, you can't use an eye piece extender with it, also I try not to chimp too much especially at off road races, it's a little too dangerous to keep looking down. I couldn't use anything that would make me take longer to check my shots.

The hood comes off in less than a second, so I remove the hood while shooting if I want to be able to quick view my pics.
