Do you think the price on the 1Ds Mark III will drop within a couple of months after it hits the stores? I've seen such a drop happen with other cameras.

I fear the phenomenon of the iPhone, where the price fell from $600 to $400 a couple months after release. I'd feel stupid paying B&H's initial price and then see it reduced by $1000 in three months.

It's been more than a couple of months since the 1DmkIII hit the market. So how much is it now? The price difference you see between what it is now and what it was when the Mark III was first introduced should give you an idea of what can be expected of the 1DsmkIII's price.

BTW, the last time I checked, the 1DmkIII were still selling at the same price they were when first introduced. :)

The 1Dmk3 price in the UK has dropped by around 3%. I lucked-in and pre-paid for mine at a store-opening when they were announced - I got a 10% discount, so I'm still better off than if I'd waited and missed the summer (such as it is).

I think the new DS will drop unless they restrict its release, but don't think Canon be stupid enough to do that, (unless they have issues with it) with the new Nikon FF being on the market by then (Should), I think the MK 3 did not drop because they kept it in short supply, and for that I do believe they have had manufacturing problems, or problems they were holding back over the AF. and did not want to flood the market, to have the possibility over so many bodies being rejected or sent back, or if a recall have so many, at the time of the MK 3 release there was no other competition, so they got away with it, not so Easy with the DS release

These are my feelings of course. take the new 40D that has dropped nearly 20% in a month, has any other new Canon release done that before?

As I said My thoughts only

You shouldn't feel bad about the price falling on any body or kit that you buy. This is natural in all industry and all items have a depreciation value. Let's just be glad it's not the same as driving off the forecourt with a brand new car, where you can (in some cases) lose over 10% of the value just by turning the key.

Canon appear to hold their value of bodies over longer periods of time, but if you aren't rushed to get the new body, i'd hold off just to lay those concerns at rest :)

Just my opinion... :)

The MK 3 has dropped in price since its release in the UK, but there is a variations of a price decrease from retail to £99-00 to £399-00 Drop
though some places are still on pre-order, but short delivery time.

The price will drop when the D3 and D300 hit the shelves.
Canon always aggressively price against Nikon.

It'll drop when Canon's ability to supply exceeds the demand for the product by a predetermined amount. Canon isn't going to manufacture the 1Ds3 at a pace nearly as brisk as they spit out 40D's and XTi's so supply isn't going to be huge. Nor will demand be huge since very relatively people can afford a camera in this price range.

My guess is that it will remain fairly high for at least 6 months before dropping a few hundred dollars. It really has no competitors in the DSLR world.

20% ???

$1299/$1499 no tax and free shipping for body/kit respectively, for the last month. Either you mean before this, and it was more...or now it is $1140/$1200, which is not right, nor would make sense.

,UK retail is £899-00, you can get it now for £749.00 @ Play.com, ok not quite 20% but still a significant drop,,,,,,, and yes you may be right the Good ole UK does get Ripped off big time for items made in Japen and US, and sold in UK

I think the drop you are seeing is the initial gouging that goes on with limited supply. The reputable dealers are still selling them at $1299 like they always have.

The way I see it, if I kept waiting for a price drop on the new equipment I'm interested in, I'd never buy anything. By the time I'd be ready to pull the trigger, something new would be introduced, I'd then wait for the price on that to drop.

I don't worry about price drops. There will always be someone who paid less, and someone who paid more...
