and seriously, if you have the money to think about investing 7-8 grand on a camera body, saving just a mere $1000 shouldn't warrant you to wait if you are going to be doing this for a business. If you're good at what you do, you will make that difference back easily. It's a tool, use it wisely and what it's meant to do.

Do People not think the new FF Nikon is competition?, it may not be as good as a Camera, but it is significantly cheaper, sure that may make some people think?
and knowing if they lose a body sale, they will lose lens sales as well

Pesronally i don't think the D3 IS competion to the 1Ds MkIII, i don't think it has any competion aside from MF....

i think the D3 will be more competition for the 1D mkIII and 5d - i think it [D3] could satisfy both sports, journo, event [mkIII users] shooters with it's high fps [competing with the 1dmkIII] high iso performance, and landscape, wedding, portrait [5d users] shooters - i think anyone who needs/wants 22mp is not even going to blink at the d3........

Current gear: EOS 7D w/ BG-E7
300mm f4L IS, 70-200mm f2.8L IS II, 24-70mm f2.8L, 85mm f1.8, 1.4x mkII tc, 430ex.

I don’t believe this Lone Ranger will have any competition soon -

The only difference in price we will see is when the stores reduce their mark-up by the end of the year, even then I don’t expect more then a couple hundred in difference max

I not agreeing, I think it will be available at a discount after a short period of time,
and as most think the D3 is more competition to the 1 MK 3, lets hope that gets more discounted than it all ready is

Wonder why Canon started rebates all ready on the 40D? 1st. October

The d3 is mainly a sports camera that they put a FF sensor in. Yes people will buy it for weddings, but then again many people also use the 5D at half the d3 price for weddings.

The 1Ds3 is a portrait, studio, landscape camera with 21MP. The d3 at 12MP is a sports (at 9fps), and a general use camera. The 1Ds3 is simply in another league. The d3 is priced and has features very similar to the 1D3.

All that Canon would end up with by lowering the 1Ds3 price would be less money in their pocket. The 1Ds3 and d3 are not competitors.

Are you kidding me!? no other 35mm dslr can touch the 22 mega monster, definitely not in megas, if anything else. this is verifiable of course.

A forum user from dpreview, who seems to get advance info on cameras but doesn't say much about them, says the D3x and 5D2 are "right around the corner", i.e. Spring.

So are the 1DMKIV and 1DsMKIV. Oh yeah, and the 60D too.

Back on topic...

1-series cameras hold their retail price for nearly a year.

Haha, well put. Almost the same thing about us putting the first humans on mars. We aren't there yet so we shouldn't start jumping the gun and sell "water front property" on mars...
