But, I got the 1DIII from B&H's latest batch. After many, many pictures of license plates, I don't see any focus issues. I've used center point alone and with L/R assist points. Plate after plate in perfect focus. Oh, and hot (94 degrees) and sunny Texas afternoon (1:00 - 3:30).

I'm not going to post any license plate pictures, but I did go into the back yard for a bit to mess with a few things. The attached is some grass blowing in the wind. AI servo with center point, 300 f4L IS at 4.0, ISO 100, 1/800 handheld, Raw/faithful, added a little USM, focused on the piece just to the left of center (image was cropped some). The camera followed that sucker while it swayed and bounced around like its life depended on it.

And seeing the pic here, the print from TIFF shows much, much more sharpness in the main seed head. Apparently, the resize to JPEG for posting dumbed it down some.

That looks pretty good on my monitor! Nice to hear you're not having problems with the AI Servo tracking. With something this expensive you want it/expect it to be perfect, and rightfully so.

I haven't been paying attention to the latest updates. Has canon put out a firmware fix for the servo problems of the first batch?
