what lens should you use for snowboard/ski photography? i was thinking of getting the 85mm 1.8 but dont know if thats long enough. i used it in basketball and it was only really good for things around the net.

I think the 85mm could work just as long as you can position yourself just right for the shots. If you can't move around to make the 85 work and you want something more agile, you might want a 70-200.

Where will you be shooting from? Right in the midst of the action, top of the hill, or bottom? For right in there, I'd suggest a wide, mainly a fisheye. For top of bottom of the hill I would highly suggest a lens with good zoom range, anywhere from 70-300mm (not that lens in peticular, though).

Jordan101,

I have been taking skiing pic's for awhile now and my favorite lens is the 70-200L 2.8. Great lens for almost any circumstance. I just got a 100-400L and am looking forward to using it this season. Good luck on the season.

Gear: Canon 30D, Canon Mark III, Canon 70-200 2.8L Non IS, Canon 300L IS, Canon 16-35 2.8L, Canon 100-400L, Speedlite 580EX II.
