Looks like you are doing pretty well :). As you are finding out DOF is king in macro shots :)

Your 1st image is very nice. Good use of flash.

On second one you are lucky to have a stationary subject or at 1/4 of second, with that f18, you would have lots of blur motion. Don't be afraid to use higher than ISO 400 as your 30D's sensor is really good in giving you low noise and good quality image, then you can add on F or increase shutter speed. You have a tad lack of sharpness. I add a bit of sharpness and think looks better.

Thanks Brian, sure am finding the DOF is a big problem. I am Shooting at f18 and f20 and still I have not got enough DOF.

It is a big jump from birds to macro and you have done very, very well. These shots are excellent.

Check this Forum for very many good ideas.
My favorite is a Cokin macro flash that is not included in the forum yet. Hopefully will add a picture from mine there soon.

Pretty good start to things Roy - you picked a tough subject though, since the webs for these garden orb weaver spiders usually move at the slightest wind. Good job.

Lovely sharp and well lit shots.

I don't think you'll have too many problems adapting to macro. :)
