I just bought my 5D 4 days ago. Before that I used a 300D. It doesn't bother me about the 3fps...I'm usually shooting landscape stuff. I did use it on my daughters gymnastic meet Saturday and I really like it. The larger buffer was a pleasure!

Shot an album launch event and used a 16-35 2.8 II / 30mm 1.4 on a 30D and a 24-105 f/4 IS on my 5D (got lazy to bring my 135L).

I decided to shoot the whole event with no flash, just ambient.

The 5D sucks on lowlight.:)

That's the truth. The quality of the 5D is well worth the pricetag and then some. I get that WOW effect all the time, but now I'm thinking the 40D and 5D combo for events would be perfect.

I just went from a 30D to a 5D. I am absolutely amazed on the IQ difference. I will never go back to a 1.6 crop. I do mostly Portrait work and by far is this a much better camera for that. I shot kids soccer with both and I think the images are a heck of a lot better with the 5D.

i have both cameras too. i use the 30d like a teleconverter when i need more reach.

both are very good cameras but a 1.6 crop camera will never top the IQ of a FF camera.

i think the way to look at it is you can't get improved IQ with lenses that aren't up to the task... :D.

many inexpensive lenses actually look better on the 5d .... the 50 1.4 is a good example.

hello,
seriously considering a 5D purchase. I think I may have read dozens of reviews. I know its plus points and I have read about some bad points- vignetting etc.
so come on! good points aside what does it NOT do well? (if anything). Be honest.

cheers!

Rhys

apart from the obvious (lack of high speed motordrive etc - which I do not want BTW)):

-It's obviously bigger tan the 350 or 30D and so not good as a subtle P&S for street candids ( OK though)
-The A-Dep isn't there which ws handy on the 30D ( but never cehcked how reliable it ws)
-It needs more 'C' settings , I find I have to change often between my favourite landscape settings, mty 'street' settings and my 'portrait' settings, i.e. I am always having to re register the camera settings
-It is not waterproof which put me off defnitely takig it out in a lot of the cr*p weather we get here
-the on/off button keeps resetting itself when you carry it, as it knocks against your belt:evil::evil::evil:
-the VF diopter adjustment wheel keeps resetting itself when you accidentally touch it, or put it in the camera bag etc, so when you come to focus you can't understan d for a secod when its; not focussing ( it is but you cant see it)

I used the 5D with 1.4 extender with 70-200 2.8 IS at soccer Sat. It wasn't nearly as good as the 20D because I added the extender to get the reach. I think I am seriously considering the 40D for next season in the spring, but like Maureen, the 1D series is so tempting, but I don't have the money for it. I'd be paying for it for about 2 years if I get one.

Bought the 5D in late July of this year after using the 10D since July of 2003.

Biggest thing I notice is the 1.6 crop to FF. While I prefer the FF and I also know I can crop a photo to pretty much the same aspect, it takes some getting used to when looking through the viewfinder. In my mind it seems like I've lost something.

Another thing, and I know it's just me, not the camera, is that the 5D is some what more complicated, more & different controls than the 10D and I'm not taking the time to learn it. Keep telling myself I went through the same thing when I got the 10D but I seem to be more impatient this time around. I know it'll all come together and when I do get the settings right ... WOW! ... are they right on! But going into the 5D, I knew there would be a learning curve.

As we say down here, I am about to bust! Trying to wait to see if any rebates are in the offing for the 5D while having the approval from Mama to get it in time for some fall colors in Tennessee and N Georgia. My favoite work is landscapes, so I am definitely going to leap up from the 300D!

I was not convinced I needed the 5D until the rebates came around. I got the double rebate and it paid for the 430ex I wanted and then some. Wait for the rebates for about a month.

Definitely standby for the rebate, it that means anything to you (should if you need approval :) ). But it is a wonderful camera for landscapes!

I have both the 30D and the 5D. I didn't upgrade from the 30D, I added to my arsenal.

I do mostly outdoor photography, but do both landscape and wildlife, and I felt like each camera could contribute -- the 30D with its crop factor helps me to frame a wildlife shot, but the 5D FF, more resolution, is just a natural for landscape shooting or any wide angle use, and its IQ does have some "snap" out of the camera, and its greater resolution, well, it's all good. Vignetting is a lense problem more than a FF problem, is it not?

So, I say, get the 5D, but don't automatically get rid of the 30D. When I recently went on a wildlife shoot, I mostly used the 30D.
